I'm a long time customer of TigerDirect.com (TD) as well as their outlet chain here in Illinois. Over the last year I have found that they offer expired rebates to lure people into buying products. Also there is blatant false advertising on their website, mailers and overcharges on your bill. On 7/31/06 I ordered a computer case and power supply that was a package deal (Invoice No: I54651320102). The case came damaged so I called TG for a replacement and the manager tried to get me to keep the damaged case and would knock $15.00 off the price. I said no and that I wanted a new case and was informed that I would have to pay for shipping both ways, again! Needless to say I returned both items.
On to the fall of 2007 when I purchased roughly $1200.00 worth of components from the TD outlet store in Naperville Illinois. I bought a motherboard,CPU,video card and 2 GB of RAM. When I asked a employee behind the counter if they sell retail hard drives and CPU's I was told no TD does not sell retail CPU's or hard drives, which carry a longer warranty for a few extra dollars. I bought the OEM CPU and later found out that they do indeed sell retail HDs and CPUs. Promised in the deal was about $300.00 worth of mail in rebates. The following day I went to fill them out and send them in and noticed that all had expired. I went back to the store to inquire about the deceptiveness of the rebates and how they had expired before I even purchased the items. The cashier basically stated that this was my fault for not checking them before buying the items. I tried to return the items but TD wouldn't accept them as they were already opened. I still have all the receipts.
On 04/03/08 I ordered an Intel E8500 CPU (Order No:W2820098) and when checking out took a screen shot of the bill, as I do with all web orders. The total was $317.57. The next day I went to see my activity at my bank online only to find that TD had credited the $317.57 back to my account and then recharged $319.04 without my authorization or even an email to let me know! I called TD and was told by customer service that the money would be credited back. It still hasn't happened.

On 04/04/08 I ordered two Intel E8500 CPU's (Order No:W2831082) and the total was $647.45. Again I took screen shots of everything. The next day when I checked my account I was charged an additional $650.47 on top of the first charge for what appears to be no reason! When I contacted TD customer service they told me that it was my bank and not them. I then asked for a manager and was put on hold for ten minutes. I ended up calling back and spoke with a gentleman named Arturo Correa who was quite helpful and promised the charges would be removed and that the $1.50 or so from the first order would also be credited. The next day the original charge of $647.45 was removed but not the second overcharge of $650.47! Also not credited was the $1.50 difference from the first order. I am very angry with TigerDirect and the way they do business. They feel they can charge you with whatever they want or "Adjust" the bill as they see fit. I feel like I've been ripped off and lied to so many times that there is no reason not to seek legal counsel. Seeing their reseller ratings really explains a lot. A total of 5,000 ratings and they score a total of 6.90. NewEgg.com which has roughly 4 times that amount at just under 20,000, scores a 9.73. The customer service reps that post there claim their support is second to none but obviously they haven't heard of NewEgg.com. I will be contacting the BBB as well as writing my local state representatives. Maybe a class action lawsuit will follow. I will also be speaking to a lawyer this week.

AUTHOR: Tiger Direct Pat - (U.S.A.)

We apologize for these situations, but I personally attempted to contact you by phone and by e-mail after you left your reseller ratings post. My attempts were apparently ignored. We apologize for what happened at the store; we do not deliberately offer expired rebates EVER. A manager at the store should have been notified of the situation, as it was an oversight. As for order W2820098, we have already refunded the price difference. Lastly, our records indicate on order W2831082, that that second authorization was dropped after a conference call, and you were credited the 3 dollar difference on your order over a month ago. We also see that you have filed a claim with the BBB. We have been apologetic, and have recitifed all of these situtions except for the store issue expediently. If there is anything else we can do for you, don't hesitate to e-mail me at Patrice.Altine@tigerdirect.com.

Sincerely,

Pat A.
