When you go to TigerDiect.com website (as I did today, 8-3-09) you get a pop up for a contest that asks for your e-mail, name and zip code:

contect link here:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/sectors/campaigns/include/lenovoBundleSweepsPop.asp

note that in the link, there is no info about you opting into any e-mail, any expiration dates nor any rules link.

When you enter the info, you are taken to a landing page that says that the contest is well expired (expired Juny 11, 2009)

contest landing page here:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/campaigns/campaigntemplate.asp?CampaignID=963

HOWEVER, they send you an e-mail that says to complete your entry you must click on a link.. No where in that e-mail does it say that you are signing up for any spam mail.

e-mail text as follows:

Subject: One More Step to Enter the Lenovo Desktop Bundle Daily Sweepstakes

Thank you for entering the Lenovo Desktop Bundle Sweepstakes. You could win a Free PC by Lenovo.

Good Luck!

If you do not want to join, do nothing. You will be automatically removed.

Thinking that maybe they started a new contect I stupidly clicked there and instead was brought to a page that "confirmed my opt-in email"

It stated:
EMAIL SUBSCRIPTION CONFIRMED!

but I did not want to sign up for any spam mail, was never told I was signing up for spam mail and am given no option on that page to unsubscribe from any spam mail...

Overall I find their practice deceitful, immoral and probably illegal (I also reported them tothe FTC)

I did what you said, did you miss the part of the email that says:

"If you do not want to join, do nothing. You will be automatically removed"

meaning if you click the link you are signing up for a mailing list.

I dunno, its just their way of sending you deals. Click the link at the bottom of the page:
