My car was serviced at Tire Works where they did a oil change.A little over a week after this was done my son was driving to work and after getting off the freeway he heard some engine noise and saw some smoke coming out from under the car. He called me and I went out there and found that all the oil had leaked out through the oil filter. I called Tire Works and they came out and towed the car back to the shop. They kept the car for a couple of days to look it over and then admitted it was their fault and they would replace the engine. Art from Tire Works told me he would try and have it done in a week.

About a week later my son called in and they told him that the engine had come in and the car should be ready the next day.The next day Art called me and said he wanted to talk to me. I and my son went into the store and Art showed me a "Technical service bulletin (88-3R2)" from the Filter Manufacturers Council. (It explains how the failure of the pressure regulator and the bi-pass valve in the car could cause the filter to fail and leak oil.)

After I read this he told me that is what happened to my car and it's not their fault and they would not replace the engine.I asked him to produce the filter that was damaged so I could see for myself that this was true and he told me he didn't have it anymore.( I was there when they towed the car in and replaced the filter and added oil to the car to test it. And the filter they removed was not damaged.) He told me a guy from corporate came in to inspect the car and did not see oil flowing in the engine .(that was blown from all the oil leaking out)and that was the reason they determined that a part in the car failed and they were not responsible. I asked Art for the name and number to contact the "guy from corporate" and he refused to give it to me. He told me "I can't talk to him".

I believe that the wrong filter was put on the car or the filter was installed incorrectly and that caused the oil to leak out and ultimately the engine to fail.

At first Art admitted they were wrong and agreed to replace the engine. My son saw the engine there with the instructions on how to replace it on the front seet.
He suddenly changed his mind, and now he determined the filter failed even though at the time he did not even have the filter to check or show me and see if it was in fact damaged.

I believe that he found this Technical service bulletin (88-3R2) or it was given to him by the mysterious "Corporate guy" and is using it to get out of his responsibility to replace the engine and make this right. It is companies like this that give auto repair businesses a bad name.I don't know how he could stand there and lie right to my face!!
