My daughters bought me a sewing machine from this company - 7,2012 and paid approximately $129.00 for it.
It worked pretty well until the end of June, 2013, then nothing I did could make it sew at all. I then went out of town and one of my daughters took it to one of the 2 locations in Bradenton for Tops Vacuum & Sewing, for me, to see why it was not working/sewing. She took it to them somewhere between 6/20/13.
The man that took the machine was "covering" for the regular repairman while he was on vacation and wrote on the receipt "call with estimate" and was very nice. Two weeks later, Tops called and said it was ready and when she questioned the price, the man (the regular store worker who was back from vacation) was RUDE and said "how much did you expect to pay?" and told her that the "IDIOT" THAT COVERED FOR HIM SHOULD HAVE TOLD HER THAT ALL SERVICE REPAIRS ARE $89.99!!!!!, and that they sent it over to the Manatee Ave location to be serviced. Why they think the location is important information, I have no idea. IF she had known the minimum repair cost, she never would have left it with them and taken it somewhere else. Somewhere that DID tell you the minimum charge!!!
As she was NOT happy with the price and knew I wouldn't be, she did not pick it up. He did not even tell her what they did to repair it OR what was wrong with it. Seriously, to pay OVER half the price of what the machine cost, for an "unexplained" repair is OUTRAGEOUS!!! It could have been a very minor repair that took only a few minutes to do. My father, sold and repaired sewing machines for MANY years before he died and would be SHOCKED hear about this mess..........
I have sent 3 emails, through their website, Tops Vacuum $ Sewing, asking them to please send me the name and phone number of a regional manager AND leaving them my email and phone number.......... with no response. The last one I sent, I told them if I did not get a response by today, 7/16/13, either by phone or email, that I would report them to you. When I got home from work today, I checked my email and phone messages and NOTHING. Also, I seem to be BLOCKED from their site............ I tried 3 times to get in and could not!!!
There is absolutely no excuse for this. I wanted to speak to someone about the above issues and if they expect to STAY in business and have a SUCCESSFUL business, they need to - at the least - respond to their customers.
My sewing machine is still there and I will NOT pick it up or pay their outrageous charge until I get some answers.
