A guy knocked on the door, introduce himself and said was making a survey about peoples careers. After I gave him the answer he asked me to look in a small booklet with the list of magazines, with corresponding points to it. He said that my pick will help him win a trip to europe. I told him that I did not have any money at the time and he said that they would take a post dated check. I told him that I didn't have any checks. He then asked if I had a debit or credit card. I told him that I did. He told me that there was a number that he could call that could take a post dated payment and I would have 3 days to cancel the order if it was not okay with my husband and he would still get the points. I said okay and he asked if he could use my phone.

He called and gave a young woman his ID # and and she confirmed the order for the magazines that we had discussed. When she said that the order was going to be almost $200.00 I told her never mind. I knew that my husband would not be okay with the purchase. She said that if I wanted him to get his points then we needed to complete the transaction and I could call right back and cancel. I told her that I could not do that. I never gave her my card information.

Almost 2 weeks later there was a charge from Tower of Power to my debit card. I never gave the girl my card information so the only logical conclusion is that while I was speaking with the girl, the young man that was standing by me took down the card information and processed the sale after he left my house. Now I can not find a number any where to call and dispute the charge, as I do not have a receipt for the transaction that I did not make.

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds

i'm so sorry that happened

AUTHOR: Cristal - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, March 30, 2008

my name is crystal i am a former employee of tower,

i'd like to start by saying that i'm really sorry that those scum bags ripped off and all the other people that were scamed.

i know that you have a sour taste in your mouth about this company, but it really isn't a scam. before working for tower of power sales, i was a customer.
back in 1999 a young man knocked on my door he made sure to ask if i was of age before he even went into his presentation. scince i was only 16 he asked for my parents or an adult. you've herad the presentation so long story short we ordered ym magazine, ebony, vouge and renewed us news and world reports. it took a while the receipt said 120 days we gave an extra week and guess what? we got them! we ordered , renewed, and even donated books through out the years.

in 2002 when i was 19 a young lady knock on our door and i knew the her presentation better than she did since i've been backing someone every 6 months...i picked out vibe magazine and gave $54 in cash . she suggested that i get into the contest. with in two weeks i joined the team i did very well considering that i entered 3 1/2 weeks after that contest started.

i was professional and honest. i made sure that people understood exactly whay i was diong and was comfortable before i left, and never told any body anything that wasn't true, because duh, my name is on the two yellow forms that i had to leave with the customers , the company's phone number and address was on it as well, and i believe what goes around comes around, my parents tought me right from wrong.

the contest is real, how ever we are do receive a commisson as well as cash awards for participating:$500 for every 10,000 points, which can add up to $5000 per 6month contest and the top 4 wins a trip (which i've won over $30,000 in prize money alone and i won a tip to hawaii and guam in 2004 ) you can re-enter as offten as you like.

i saved my money, well most of it.i loved it. i would have done these forever , how ever in 2006 family issues called me home and i chose to stay, i went back to school i currently am self employeed and i still get magazines when someone knocks on my door or come to my make up studio.

please don't get me wrong, i don't doubt that people have been ripped off ,but i noticed that some of the people who reported ripoffs weren't ripped off, they just maybe didn't have a full undertsanding and looked it up found bad info about the company from people that were actually scammed,or people that saw the site as well.

scams and rippoff is not what this copany is about. a few losers and hand full of idiots gave a bad rep to company that was built on some ones hard work and honesty. every copany has bad employees and i can almost assure that if the owner of the company found out about these ripoff agents he's fired them and or helped get them thrown in jail. i don't know what kind of person you'd have to be to just lie and ripoff someone who is kind enough to take time out of their day talk with you, listen to what you have to and even help you out. i don't want to know anyone like that. i'm truely sorry i know that i'm not the person that scammed you but i really feel bad. tower of power sales is a good company not a ripoff. this is not what i was touhgt or experienced when i was with the copmany. as sad as i am to see that a contest that help me to develope into the person i any today on a site such as this i'm glad that is site exsitst. i hope the scammers are fired , in jail and reading and well think twice about ripping people off.

once again i am really sorry that people were rippedoff i know what it's to lose your money trying to be nice to other people, but i hope that i've shined some light on the situation and if any you conciders trying your luck again or run across that one person that restores your faith in todays youth, please be careful.

if i could offer a bit of advice i would say:

* if the person seem sketchy, 9 times out of ten they are. don't even waste your time,a bad vibe is a bad vibe

* if you get a good vibe from someone there's a reason why, may everything is on the up and up. but if wanna check out what you are doing before you write a check or hand over cash do so,
ask the agent to call the toll free # that they have to call for credit card authorizations and ask the service man or woman questions about the kid at the door and the contest.(they don't know contest points but they can vailidate things for you)

*the agent does not need to touch your credit card for any reason. they well call a toll free #,give their name and info to the opperator, read your order and then hand the phone over to you. you give the card info yourself and they well give the sales agent a confirmation # after going over all details of your order to make sure you have verified everything.( it blows my mind that someone was dirty enough to still this info from a customer)

*never make a check out payable to the agent (i don't think i need to explain)

*there are other crews in the clearing house (p.c.c.s) that clears orders for tower of power, i don't knew them all but you are in good hands as far as i know if the company is from (p.c.c.s.)

*most scam crews show a p.o. box instead of a street address and no phone #. i actually ran across one crew (not tower of power or p.c.c.s.) who phone # was disconnected.

things things are not true:

*you can give a cash donation. (agents don't represent any charity, you can donate a book or magazine)

*this contest is for school.( no the contest is not affiliated with any school, some agentds maybe doing it for money to go to school, but the program has nothing to do with any school)

these things are true:

*points are collected by magazine sales.

*bonus points are real, extra points for cash and change ( because the checks are not processed for 8 days after the sale, so the agent has to wait for the points to clear ) cash tno wait for the points. extra points for renewuals, gifts and donating magazines or books.

*some contest directors make things extra fun by putting up dailey and weekly bonuses, which can give every one a chance to say that they won something, for example...gift cards, speacial dinner, games systems, ipods even cash to name a few, so collecting the most decorative checks, good comments and other things that you might find random could be a cool prize for someone.
