Recently I was asked to supervise two moves, both in a small village about 20 miles away from town.

The first move was for a family member, I had recommended "TWO MEN and a TRUCK".

The first move went smooth with two members emptying out a very large, very nice house

in a day. The total cost was around 1,200. A few weeks after this I was charged with supervising a move of an Art collection (including but not limited to about 40 rubbermaid boxes and a few large bronze statues, along with some metal sculptures.

from this same house's garage to a storage shed in town. This tookabout 3 hours and was a cost of 285.00. Please again note that this location was 20 miles out of town.

The time had come for me to move. I called two men and a truck, and gave them the details of my smaller move

here in town. I was quoted "around $400.00" from sales representative Carol Plain. I figured this to be about right

as there was no refrigerator, nor stove to move and the distance was less than 8 miles. Larger than the

Art collection, but not much larger. I also asked if they offered any type of customer loyalty discount

since this is the third time I would be using their services within a two month time span. To which I received this

reply:

"Dear Seth,
We are not permitted to offer any discounts because of state mandated regulations, but since you have moved with us multiple times over the last year we can waive the travel charge for your next move that will save you at least 30 min. off your total moving cost.
We can also offer you $20 in free boxes and packing supplies. Please let us know if you have any other questions, concerns, or are ready to schedule your move.
Thank you for using Two Men and a Truck, we look forward to hearing from you again soon."

After this I was asked for a deposit to be charged to my credit card of $50.00 that would be applied to the balance of the move.

I was called by TWO MEN and a TRUCK on July 18th or 19th, they requested my VISA number to take the deposit which I gave them, of course thinking my total moving cost would be "about $400.00" as originally quoted. After the deposit WAS CHARGED I received an email (quoted below) requesting "additional information on inventory to be moved".

Email:

"Dear Seth,
Yes, Saturday July 27th, arrival at 10 am is fine. We do have some questions as toinventory of items to be moved, so if you could please give us a call."

I found this to be very odd after they had already took my deposit, they suddenly needed "additional information".

Shortly after I received the following email:

 "Dear Seth,
Thank you for sending the inventory of items you are moving. Given the inventory of your move we need to send 3 movers to complete this move in one day. 3 movers will save you time and money and will complete the move in less time then 2 movers.

So with my deposit already GONE, I was now informed that the rate had changed dramatically. It's the old bait and switch tactic,

I frantically typed up the following email letting them know this was unacceptable:

"Thanks for the reply and quote. I must say, I'm rather shocked by the estimate. I chose to use 2 men and a truck because my mother recently used your services and was pleased with the cost and overall quality of work. However, she was charged $95 an hour. I don't see paying $80 more per hour than she was charged! Also, my household isn't that large and in past moves we have never paid over $700. I do not need boxes or tools...
Is there any way to lower the cost substantially?! And if not, I will need my deposit back.
Thanks for your assistance and understanding.
ST."

My deposit was NOT returned, and now I am forced to share this incident with others so they do not get ripped off. They wanted to charge me a total of $80.00 more per hour, add an extra person, and the previously free tape and boxes were now being tacked on. Everything was pre-packed and in rubbermaid boxes. I ended up calling Duke City movers and had an awesome team of two brothers who moved the house in under 4 hours. They charged a little under $200.00 for their services and time.

I called to file a charge back on my credit card via the bank as they did not accept the above email requesting my deposit back.

(Which is another reason I am typing this information up.) There is nothing more despicable than these petty thieves that use bait and switch tactics, altering their pricing after initial quote and deposit collecting. It is highly advised that anyone in the Albuquerque Metro area needing moving services look elsewhere. A short summary: They quoted me a price, charged me a deposit of $50.00, then requested additional information to highly inflate the price I was initially quoted. It's not really about the money anymore, it's about having ethical business practices, an ounce of pride, and being honest.

Two Men and a Truck Rip Off / REeply months later, what a joke....

AUTHOR: Zoid - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, February 18, 2014

Two Men and a truck Albuquerque New Mexico, with a response now? Only after I had to spend massive amounts of time and energy signing statements from the bank that they truly intended to rip me off for a deposit? Look at the time frame this was responded to, first an email from their "Corporate" office apologizing filed months ago, and now this?

It looks like Carol Plain and the people who operate this company in Albuquerque (New Mexico) operate on a severe time delay, or perhaps they thought they would "get away" and file a response months and months later? They never contacted me, never offered a refund, and NEVER showed up to see just what they were moving.

Again these people WERE FORCED to refund the money via a charge-back (from the BANK) and DID NOT do so willingly like and decent company would.

The rebuttal is totally false, and should be a great indication of how these "thugs" do business in the Albuquerque Metro area and beyond. So let the record indicate that you will have to spend time filing a charge back, following up to bogus "Corporate" reports, and dealing with people who will rip you off for a deposit.

Sorry Two Men, I stand up for the consumer, and will NOT let this "slide by", but thank you for a great demonstration in real time about how you do business.

Customer Complaint

AUTHOR: Carol - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, February 18, 2014

We treated this customer with the same professional attention we give all of our customers, When Mr. Thurston 1st sent an email requesting to schedule a move we called him to confirm the move date and get an inventory of items to move- he was somewhat general with the inventory, We did request more accurate inventory over the phone, we also sent an email requesting the same. Mr. Thurston was not forthright with the inventory and was slightly disagreeable from the 1st contact with our office. We do ask all of our customers give us a complete inventory before conducting the move in order to properly estimate the move time and number of movers needed to perform. Mr. Thurston told us he would send an inventory when he had time. We did inform him that his move could not be performed without the inventory and offered to perform a free onsite estimate  to make this easier for him. He refused the onsite estimate stating he did not have time before his move day.

He scheduled the move on July 16th to be performed on July 27th, after numerous requests he did not disclose the correct inventory until July 22nd after the close of business. Once we received the correct inventory we saw that he need to move some large and unusual items and that would require some additional manpower to perform the move properly.  The items listed were: 150 gallon fish tank, 385 LB. Block Master Ice Machine, and 5 large appliances. We completed the estimate for moving and send it over right away.

Mr. Thurston reviewed the estimate and was not happy about the additional manpower it would take to perform the move properly. He refused the 3rd mover and canceled the move. We did explain to him- as with all customers the deposit is non refundable after 24 hrs. of scheduling the move- he was aware of this from our 1st contact.
He was aware as we corresponded via email and over the phone several times and he was made aware about the non-refundable deposit from our 1st contact. All of our customers  receive a confirmation letter the day the move is scheduled that clearly states the deposit is non-refundable after 24 hours. Mr. Thurston did reply to the letter as required by our company policy confirming that he did read and understand the contract, our policies, and procedures as clearly written in the confirmation letter. He also stated in his reply that he would follow up with the proper itemized inventory. He was aware the deposit was non-refundable after 24 hours from our 1st contact. Once he canceled the move less than 24 hours prior to the scheduled move date, he was angry that we would not refund the deposit.

We were forthright with our requirement of proper inventory of items to be moved. It is the customers responsibility to be honest and forthright with the inventory to allow us to properly estimate the move cost and time. Since Mr. Thurston was not forthright until just before the move date our estimate could not be accurate until we received the proper information.

We regret that Mr. Thurston was not happy with the additional cost of the 3rd mover required to move the large and unusual items, but we are required have additional man power to ensure the safety of our movers and customers belongings when handling large and unusual items.

We did refund Mr. Thurston's deposit in this case to show goodwill to him as a repeat customer and the fact that we are an upstanding company.
