2I noticed charges on my credit card for magazines that I did not want. I recall a long time ago being offered 'free' subscriptions over the internet after I bought something. Anyway, I don't recall getting a renewal notice or offer letter of any kind, but the subscriptions were renewed and charged to my card, four magazine in total.

All that I saw on my statement was something like this:

TWX*L6H046*PC MAGAZINE 800-496-3740 VA

Here is what you need to do to reverse this: call NSS Subscriptions at 1-888-321-6247. There is a catacomb of voice driven menu questions - fear not - press # a few times and you will be transfered to a human being who can help. Make sure that you demand to cancel the subscriptions and have the charges reversed.

Their 'hardened' customer 'service' people were helpful, if slightly reluctant - they would only remove subscriptions that I had the names of, they wouldn't tell me all the magazines that they had charged me for. They said that they would cancel the subscriptions and reverse the charges - they said it may take a couple of statements. We will see if this occurs or not.

Good luck.

PS - you can always call the magazine that you have been subscribed to and ask them for the number of the service that subscribed you - they will give you their phone number to call.

Nice lady helped me

AUTHOR: Jason - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 24, 2009

I remember signing up for 3 magazines for a "free trial" or whatever and forgot to cancel. I did. I forgot.

My wife called to cancel the first 2 as they showed up on her card but the 3rd one didn't show up right on her credit card invoice...so I googled it and found this place.

Thank you very much for the number and the directions about using 0 and then * when prompted to take the survey. I still had to listen to the system ask me several times if I was sure I wanted to talk to a person and warn me it might take a long time...It didn't by the way, I was on hold for less than 2 minutes.

I didn't yell or scream at the lady that answered and I didn't lie and tell her I didn't know what this was from or that I had canceled and so I didn't ask for a refund I didn't deserve.

I could tell she was reading a prompted screen as she would say something and I would respond and she would pause and start speaking as if she was reading something(I'm guessing she was pretty new).

She of course tried to get me to buy 3 more issues at a "special" rate but I said no thank you and I just wanted to cancel it.

I did NOT get asked for a credit card number at any point.

First she asked me for me to spell my last name, then she asked me for my zip code, then she asked me to verify my whole name and billing address. She then asked me how much the bill was for, I didn't have the statement so I just told her it was around $24. She told me what magazine it was for. I asked her if there were any others I was subscribed to and she said that I had been subscribed to 2 other magazines but they had been canceled. That's when I said I wanted to cancel and she made me a "special" offer which I declined.

She canceled it while I waited about 30 seconds and asked if there was anything else she could do. I said no. she said have a great day and I told her to do the same.

Now maybe that have auto billed people without warning them. I don't know about all that. But they didn't do it to me. I just forgot to cancel during the trial period. And they were not mean or rude to me at all. The only complaint I could possibly make is that she had a thick accent and her English was a little hard to understand at times, but again, she was very nice and helped me quickly.

I hope this helps to set expectations for other people.

So steps again are...

1. call 1-800-496-3740
2. hit 0
3. hit 0 again
4. Say "No" when prompted to continue using the automated system.
5. hit * when the system starts talking about you being selected for a survey.
6. be nice and honest when you get someone :) *probably shouldn't have to add that part but people forget sometimes...I know I do.
7. have a great day

Resolved very quickly once I got through

AUTHOR: Ovik - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, November 15, 2008

I was concerned when I saw the comments on this site about TWX when I started investigating the roughly $70 charges posted on my card.

I called the number mentioned earlier and after patiently hitting # with the automated responses for 5 minutes, I got through to an agent who noted down my details and assured that my charges would be reversed in 1-2 billing cycles.

I was pretty psyched and did not trust them. What would I do if they did not reverse after 2 months? I called up my credit card to make sure. The transactions were in a TEMP state as they had been posted a day earlier only and the rep asked me to call back when they were approved.

However, after two days when I was checking my card to report the incident, surprisingly I found that the charges had already been reversed! I was relieved. In hindsight they seem like a good company, in fact I got some magazines for $2 annual fee last year. However, I had totally missed or did not get any notice of my account renewal this year.

Another Rip Off Attempt

AUTHOR: Brathaw - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, October 08, 2008

I have no idea who this company is, or how they got my credit card number. My credit card company sends me an email every time my card is used, and I received a notice that TWX*MAGAZINE ORDER 800-773-3142 NYUS charged my card $3.01 at 4:22 am.

I called the number listed here, played with the automated system. Which did not help me in the least, I finally got a human who proceeded to politely tell me that he had no record of my order under my name, nor my wife's, nor my address, nor the date and time of the transaction. And wanted my credit card number.

Now, I understand that would be an easy way for him to find the charge, but there is now way I am giving my credit card number to somebody I don't know. I don't have "stupid" written on my forehead. If they don't have my name, nor address, it was not legit to begin with. And as I -only- use this card to pay my Esurance and Vonage bills, (those accounts were set up with a recurring bill date, over 2 years ago.)I cannot see how somebody else got the credit card numbers to begin with, except to randomly enter numbers. They must not verify the card holders identity, with Visa nor with the 3 digit security code.

My credit card company reversed the charge in 5 minutes.

How to get a live person when calling TWX NSS

AUTHOR: Bcnexus - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, May 10, 2008

I had a similar experience, having a charge of $2.01 on my card. The description is TWX*MAGAZINE ORDER 800-773-3142 NYUS. I reached the automated system mentioned by the original poster by calling 800-773-3142. The 800-496-3740 number got me the same automated system.

I ended up calling the 800-496 number and this is the important part: pressing # several times did not get me a live person.

However, hanging up and calling them again, pressing zero (0) a couple times got the system to ask me if I wanted a live person. I had to verbally respond with a "yes." I then skipped a survey the system wanted me to take by pressing the star key (*).

I finally got a live person and she was polite. She explained the $2.01 charge was a test charge and would be taken off. It's in preparation for a larger charge for a magazine (Car and Driver) I had not cancelled.

I thought I had cancelled all of the magazines I had ordered when I called the automated ystem at the number 800 927 9351, which was listed on two post cards I got from NSS about renewing. I don't recall ever getting a third post card for the fourth magazine, Car and Driver. That's disappointing.

When I asked to cancel the subscription she asked me some questions I thought were confusing about continuing the subscription or receiving remaining issues. I declined to continue and declined to receive remaining issues. Specifically, she offered to refund the original "nominal" amount I was charged when I began the subscription IF I agreed to renew. I declined to renew.

I had to ask for the cancellation confirmation number from the agent, while the automated system gave me one for each subscription I had canceled earlier.

Easy Fix

AUTHOR: Shae - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, February 10, 2008

After noticing seven separate charges on my credit card to TWX I immediately called my bank to dispute the charges or at least find out what the heck this TWX was. Since it was a Sunday the bank was closed but I didn't want to give up so easily. I did a search on the internet and found the report posted above. It was SO helpful. I immediately called the 888 number listed above and the representative that I spoke to cancelled the subscriptions and processed the refund (although he said it would take one to two billing cycles) without any problems. It was easy and the representative was very nice.

Hardened?

AUTHOR: T07troublemaker - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, June 23, 2006

You would be "hardened" too if you were screamed at by 9 out of 10 people you get on the phones too dear. It's not as if you can remain cheery on the phone in that type on environment. Yes we do the best to try, but it doesn't always work. The best way I guess in my case, is to remain emotionless so as if not to snap back. So before you go calling someone "hardened" look how you're talking to them. Also, no one is being reluctant about giving you back a credit. We just have to verify information, and make you aware of other offers we have availible before we can cancel.

Again, like I have stated in previous rebuttals, all terms and conditions are given at the point of sale. Our company does offer a continuous servicce program with many customers find very convenient because it allows your subscription to continue without interruption of service. At the time of your internet purchase, there would have been terms and conditions listed about the continuous service program and the terms and conditions of the offer you were signing up for.

The number you found in the billing descriptor is actually most helpful, and it way more than most companies will list. For example:

TWX*L6H046* or, TWX# as we call it, is helpful because with that number we can find you charge in the system and rectify the probelm without having to get much other information from you.

PC MAGAZINE... I think this is a little obvious, we're telling you exactly what you ordered.

1-800-496-3740... the number you call for inquiries.
