Duting the first week of October,2001, I was sent an authorized return form which I used to mail back a compouter system which I was unalbe to use. They do not fix computers and I was told
that when I returned it I would be sent a check for the amount paid, including S&H. In the letter I sent I explained that I had changed my bank account, and I requested that I be credited for future orders from u-bid.com because I still wanated a computer to replace the one I returned, and that I already had winning bids for a computer processor. On Oct.6 I won a bid for a computer processor, and a computer motherboard. ON Oct. 9 I won a bid for an AMD Athalon 1.2GHz computer for $469. The total for all my orders with S&H amounted to $655, the amount I was to be credted was $655.64.

After a few months i began writing e-mail trying to find out what the status of my order was, and I received replies stating that they were going through changes, and orders were taking longer to fill than usual. A few weeks ago I received an e-mail notice that my orders were canceled, as they could not verify payment. I have been making phone calls since. They told me that on November 7,2001, that they had credited my BAnk Debit Card for the amount of $655.64., but when I went to the bank I was told that since my account had been closed since July 25,2001, there would be no possable way for my account to be credited.

I called up the u-bid.com on the phone and after being transfered I was told that in order for them to write me a check, the BAnk would have to call up the headquarters in Chicago. I went to the bank with that information and while I was there the bank called up the Chicago Headquarter and informed tham that there was no way for them to credit my account since the account had been closed and that I did not received any money from them, and that they would still have the money, nevertheless the officials of u-bid.com told them that they still would no issue me a refund. I called up u-bid.com personally and they told me the same thing, that, unfortunately, they can not issue me a refund and would not do so. I told them I had another account with another bank and that I would give them my new Visa card #, but they said they already credited me once, and will not do so again, even though they were fully aware that I never received any credit for the Item which I paid in full.

She repeatedly said "unfortunately there is nothing we can do, even after conferring with management of u-bid.com. In other words, I had been ripped off!

Ubid not to blame

AUTHOR: Mike - ()

POSTED: Thursday, April 11, 2002

I've worked for various e-tailers in the past, and we've run across this issue more than once. What has actually occurred is that your bank is actually in possession of the funds. If a charge reversal is done to a debit card, that is still processed by the merchant, meaning that the payer has paid the money, but when they attempt to credit the account, if it's closed, the money just sits there waiting for the account to reopen. My guess is that you changed banks and closed that account, right? If so, the only way you'll ever see your money is to open another account there, so they have a place to deposit the money.

Don't blame UBid, in this case it's not their fault.
