Unco Industries misrepresented the service and product Racine Wisconsin

We wanted to go into the worm growing business. After much reaserch we came upon Unco Industries which has a web site that will lead you right into starting your own business. The first thing you do is send them $50 for a DVD and a sample of the compost and a book all about the system. (not eveything you need to know)
They offer you 3 packages ranging from about $3000 to $11,000 depending on how "BIG" you want to start.
They say they will help with all the marketing ..... they will offer you use of there packaging (for a fee) so that you can market your compost under there name. I ask a specific question "can I bag my compost in your bag and sell it local for retail sales" The answer was "YES".

After checking with the Oregon Department of Agriculture .... the label is not regestered in Oregon, in fact the product was pulled off the shelf in Bend Oregon in 2003. When ask the owner about another farm in Oregon that purchased the same package ... he could not remember anything about them. Saying only that they "did not follow the system". I did more checking and found those people and visited there place! That is where my eyes were opened.

Bottom line, you can not purchase the main compost needed for his system in Oregon (which you buy 20 yards at a time) ...so your product is not going to be "Organic" as his label indicates. His DVD leads you to believe the night crawler you are raising is a "Euro" night crawler when indeed it is not. It is a "African" night crawler. You never find out about the "dirt" .... "pete humis" you need until after you pay him the money.

When I very polietly called him to ask the final questions and let him know I was not comfortable and would not be flying back to meet him .... he went on the defensive and called me a "Jerk" .... Wow ....


Please be aware .... check with your State Dept. of Agriculture and your Attorney Generals Office to see if he has done business in your State. Pay no money until you find out all of the above.

We got our bubble burst because we were excited .... but we did not get our bank account burst!! Thank Goodness.
The system he sells will work if done exactly the way he says .... you will have to figure all your marketing ... and be SURE you can get the exact ingredients. I have never known "Organic" to just be a word!! How about the word "Fraud" .... JUST A WORD???
