I just discovered that, much to my horror, my mileage plus account balance is now zero. UA has taken thousands of the miles Ive built up over the years as a member of Mileage Plus - without any notice - even in any of the mailings the airline sends me. At times, I was even a Premier member. I do not recall getting any written or email notice that these miles were going to disappear. Last year, I had planned on taking United or their partner airlines to South Africa, Montreal and Salt Lake City, but unfortunately, the trips were cancelled by the sponsors before I could make any reservations.

Every Mileage Plus statement I get which is e-mailed monthly, shows when my miles will expire. It also says it every time I log into united.com. Their terms clearly stay that after 1 year of inactivity your miles will expire, since you mentioned that you were going to fly with them last year and didn't, it sounds like its been over a year, and thus your miles expired. It's a loyalty program, they give you miles for being loyal, but they have every right to expire your miles if you are not being loyal. Maybe something else happened, but it sounds like they just expired because you weren't giving them any business, I am not sure why you would be angry with them for honoring their agreement.
