I was Employed with United American Insurance for six months in 2006. Needless to say, I was not happy with my experience. They did not have an office at that time, I was forced to make calls from home. Training on their products was minimal to non existant.

Not to mention after I left they came after me for 900 dollars because several policies had cancelled. That I felt was a ripoff!

my advice if youreceive a phone call or e-mail from United American, do not repond to that e-mail. Keep looking for another job.

Totally Agree, I am so in debt

AUTHOR: Anonymous - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, February 19, 2009

I came aboard under the same pretenses that we would make 6 figure salaries. I was hired in a seminar fashion where we all filled out paperwork after listening to the VP tell us how much money he made with the company. All we had to do was get licensed and we would have a job. Well the course was ridiculous and I ended up spending more money on another course to ensure I would pass the exam.

I have been working there for some time now and in the beginning it was fine. Made decent money but now the charge backs are killing me! I make my calls and go into business. Sometimes I make an appointment and they cancel after fully reading the policy or doing their research. We are "trained" on the policies and ways to sell them. We are given "examples" of how the policies work which I have discovered are absolute lies. Read the fine print on the policies. Some do more harm than good. The surgical benefit is a joke. I have a conscience and I can not in good faith say that this is a good product.

I feel really stupid that I fell for this pyramid scheme. The only thing good that came out of it is that I have a license now and hopefully can get a job elsewhere. Provided having worked at United American / Liberty National has not tarnished my name. For now I am working two other jobs to catch up on my bills that I am so far behind on now.

EX EMPLOYEE OF UNITED AMERICAN

AUTHOR: Sherri L - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, February 14, 2009

I was an agent for these stooges in 2006 till 2007 I was the second highest selling agent in the country.I was flying high until the until the reality of the Flex Gaurd policy hit my clients and the cancellations started.I lost 52,000.00 in chargebacks in one year.I know you agents out there know exactly what im talking about.I have a lawsuit pending against these liars.Anyone out there who was lied to and taught the misleading presentation they so adamantly preach and have lost money and respect in the insurance business please contact me as I have been advised to consider a CLASS ACTION lawsuit.Worse than losing my income was the damage I did to my clients.I am seriously affected thinking of the elderly people I basically lied to just to promote United American products. They promise them great coverage and end up covering nothing.Any agents and or victims of these bozos who want justice email me.

Every bunch has a bad apple

I am sorry you did not recieve the support and training you sould have. As with every business, you have some employees that play by the rules and others that cut corners.
It sounds like you were recuited by a new manager or office and they were not set up correctly to train you. I am an employee of United American and I was recuited and trained by managers that played by the rules and follow the business model to a tee.
They showed me the requirements for advancement, the product training, and walked me though every step of getting started and are still there for any additional training, information, or support I need.
I have been with them for 9 months and I am now an Assistant Unit Manager. It is my responciblity to recuiet and train new agents which I do with great pride and committment. I have never let a new employee out on there own until they felt they were ready and I teach my employees to do good business and be honest and trustworthy. I tell my new recuites, for day one and everyday after, this is not an easy job, you must be self disiplined, and goal oriented, and willing to work hard and do what is good for yourself, the policy holders, and the company. If you can not do this then you are in the wrong place and I dont want you as an employee.

As with the person that recuited you, if the company discovered bad pratices I am sure they no longer work for us. If you think they may not know then you sould contact the company home office in mckinley, tx and let them know.

What Ripoff?

This is another example of how this site is abused by people who wont take responsibility for their own lives and prefer to blame others for their own failures.

You knew that there was no office available for you when you started but you still chose to work for them. You were an Independent Agent which means that you make a lot of money for a reasonable amount of effort. If you want an office, go rent one.

As a licensed agent you should have a general grasp on how the insurance industry works. Everything you need to know about the companys individual products is available in the brochures or online, do your own research.

The money you owed when you left is called "chargeback" and it happens every month to every agent. When you sell a policy for let's say $100 a month you get paid 12 months in advance (usually) so thats $1200 in your pocket. If the client cancells the policy after 6 mos. and has only paid $600 you now have to pay back the "unearned" portion of your commission. This is how it works and I'm 100% sure that it was explained to you or spelled out in any contract that you signed, you just chose not to listen or read it.

Selling insurance is not for everyone ( I hated it myself ) but there is nothing out of the ordinary about your experience.
