United Health Systems engages in deceptive business practices by substituting products. They refuse to fulfill prescriptions as written by my doctor and as covered by my insurer Coventry. My doctor sent a prescription specifically for a RESmed S9 Autoset APAP. My doctor specifically prescribed this machine because of it's logging capability because I am scheduled to visit his office on a monthly basis so he can analyze the data logged by this machine. United Health Systems pulled a Bait & Switch and tried to have me take a S9 Escape which is not an APAP but a CPAP and does not log the data my doctor needs for my treatment plan. I did not take the machine and informed them it was not the right one.

They said they would order the correct machine. I went a second time to pick up my prescription and again they had pulled a Bait & Switch and ordered a S9 Auto Escape which was an APAP but did not log data as required for my treatment. Again I did not take the machine. At this point they told me they would not fill the prescription as written unless I paid an extra $300 dollars as my insurance would not cover it. I called my insurer Coventry and learned that United Health Systems had already put in a claim for my prescription on 6/21/14 and Coventry had approved and paid it in full.

Coventry informed me that United Health Systems was required to fill the prescription as written. I called United Health Systems and they still refused to deliver the equipment they had charged for. I spoke to Director Luis who hung on me and would not honor the prescription. He stated he knew more than my doctor and I had to take whatever machine they would give me. I have ask to speak to Mr. Dennis Anglin(Administrator)and Mrs Misty Anglin(President)and have gotten nowhere. I have asked for Director Luis's last name and everybody I speak to refuses to give me his full name. I have now reported United Health Systems claim as fraudulent to Coventry's Fraud Investigative unit.

#2 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Worst company to work for.

AUTHOR: frankD - ()

POSTED: Thursday, September 18, 2014

I am a Respiratory Therapist, 20 years experience and when Dennis "owner of teh company" interviewed me, he told me about the bennefits of the company and I accepted. In my first day I realized asking the other employees that United Health System do not offer any kind of benefits to their employees. No insurance, no PTO, no nothing with just 5 days off a year. The company vehicles are a disaster, There are Vans that have more than 10 years old and the personel using that vans are dealing with a serious safety issues.

I felt duped by the owner and I resigned in the same week. As today and one month after my resignation, Dennis owe me money of the first week worked. I send email every day asking for that money and the answer I receive is "I sent your pay check last night". I donnot recomend to work in this company, there are a lot of irresponsable people working in thet company. Hope someone can help me to get my money for the time I worked there.

United Health System In Davie Is Still Trying To Rip Me OFF!!!

AUTHOR: Roger - ()

POSTED: Monday, August 04, 2014

I also reported United Health Services to the BBB and they responded by totally fabricating a story!

The fraudulant story:

Mr. Roger Amador was referred to United Health Systems from University of Miami Sleep program for a S9Elite Auto Set Cpap machine.
Mr. Amador was set up on a S9 auto which was given to him on 06/24/2014 and he returned the machine on 06/27/2014 and stated we gave him the wrong machine.
Mr. Amador was given a clear explanation of which machine we can offer per our contract and that the S9 Auto offers the same reporting values (e.g.) AHI Apnea Hypopnea Index. Leak Reporting
Central apnea Detection as well as all compliance data reports.
Mr. Amador returned the machine against UHS medical advice warnings.
He has since called and was extremely inappropriate with our staff and was very belligerent with our clinical manager Luis.
Luis has explained to him that his prior sleep study and score does not warrant this machine and a regular CPAP machine would suffice but to no avail. We have reached out his Doctors office and is currently waiting for a response.
United Health Systems is willing to have Mr. Amador get set up on his machine again just for his health concerns until we a resolution is reached, he is taking a big risk with his health for no reason.
United HEALTH SYSTEMS has endured Mr. Amador's abuse and threats but we are still willing to work with him to get him his machine.

My honest response:

United Health System’s response is misleading and factually incorrect. I am just a patient trying to get better and they are trying to take advantage of me. The only statement in the whole response that is correct is “referred to United Health Systems from University of Miami Sleep program for a S9Elite Auto Set”. If they would have done the right thing, and delivered the machine as prescribed as they are legally and contractually obligated to, there would have been no conflict. They never delivered a S9 Autoset.

Instead they pulled a “Bait & Switch” and delivered a S9 Escape CPAP which is NOT auto and does not log the data my doctor needs for my treatment plan. I did not take the machine and informed them it was not the right one. They said they would order the correct machine. I went a second time to pick up my prescription and again they pulled a “Bait & Switch” and ordered a S9 Auto Escape which was an auto APAP but did not log data as required for my treatment. Contrary to what United Health Systems is stating, the S9 Escape Auto does not log all the necessary data my treatment plan requires. It does log AHI but does NOT log leak reporting, central apnea detection and other metrics my doctor is requesting. It logs limited efficacy data. This can be easily verified by going to the following website that compares the specs for the S9 Autoset and S9 Auto Escape: http://maskarrayed.wordpress.com/2011/09/19/data-capable-machines/.  This website compares the two models in detail: http://www.cpaptalk.com/viewtopic/t67630/Difference-Between-Resmed-Escape-Auto-and-S9-Autoset.html  Also a simple google search for the terms “S9 autoset vs s9 auto escape logging” will bring up dozens of sites that clearly demonstrate United Health System’s statements about the logging capability of the S9 Auto Escape are factually incorrect.

Again I did not take the machine. They told me I had to sign a receipt that I was not taking the machine. I did, but I failed to notice that UHS had inserted a statement that I was declining treatment because that section of the document was covered by employee’s hand as he held the paper for me to sign. I did not notice the statement until several hours later. All I was actually insisting on was getting the right machine as prescribed by my doctor so I can begin the treatment I so desperately need. When I called to get an update on my machine they told me they would not fill the prescription as written unless I paid an extra $300 dollars as my insurance would not cover it.

After contacting my insurance company(Coventry) they confirmed that UHS had charged Coventry for a E0601 HCPC billing code under which the S9 Autoset is covered by Coventry. Here is a document straight from Resmed confirming that the S9 Autoset is covered by the E0601 HCPC billing code: http://www.resmed.com/content/dam/resmed/global/documents/articles/Reimbursement-fast-facts-CPAP-bilevel_1013493r6.pdf Coventry informed m that UHS is contractually obligated to fill out the prescription as written and no authority to modify it. They also informed me they could not charge me any additional fee. I later learned that the practice of charging you over and above the amount your insurer has agreed is an allowable charge for the equipment is known as “balance billing” and it’s ILLEGAL under Medicare and in 47 states if you don’t have Medicare including the state of Florida. Please see this link for the details of this illegal practice: http://healthinsurance.about.com/od/claims/a/balance_billing.htm . I have since learned the deceptive practices that United Health System engages in are quite common:  http://maskarrayed.wordpress.com/what-you-need-to-know-before-you-meet-your-dme-part-i/

United Health System’s has neither medical expertise nor authority to modify my prescription and overrule my doctor. They even refuse to give me the full name to this Luis person who refused to deliver my prescription as written. United Health System’s own patient agreement states  “ I understand that United Health Systems services do not include diagnostics, PRESCRIPTIVE, and or other functions typically performed by licensed physicians, and that my physician is solely responsible for diagnosing and prescribing therapy for my condition and otherwise supervising and controlling my medical care”. I can of course provide a hard copy of my patient agreement for validation. United Health System’s has reached out to my doctor’s office and my doctor’s position is clear, they need to fill out the prescription as written as he only supports the S9 Autoset because of its robust logging not the S9 Auto Escape. I have this in writing and again can provide it in hard copy.

United Health System can easily resolve this conflict by doing the right thing and filling out my prescription correctly as they are contractually obligated to. I would save us both a lot of headaches. Nothing more is needed. Instead they choose to continue to put my health at risk. I have never been belligerent or inappropriate with any of their employees; on the contrary I have been more than patient. I have asked my lawyers to contact Coventry’s legal department about this issue and feel confident that I will get a positive response back from my insurer. I ask that the BBB please review all the evidence that I have provided and come to a final determination.
