On December 20, 2010, I went to the UPS Store in Aberdeen, SD to pick up a guitar that I had them package. Upon arrival I asked the cost to ship the item to Hong Kong, China and was told that it would cost over $800.00. I told them that I had looked up the shipping on the USPS website and it should be about $150.00 to ship.

The UPS Store changed me $67.00 to package the guitar.

I took the package and went to the post office and was told that the over all size was too large to be shipped by USPS.

I called the UPS Store and asked if they would reduce the size of the box so that it could be shipped by USPS and they told me that there would be an additional charge. I mentioned that they charged $67.00 to package it and that it was useless because it was too large. The manager got on the phone and flatly refuse to alter the packaging without additional charges.

I paid the UPS Store in Aberdeen, South Dakota $67.00 for packaging and now I have to repackage it in order to ship.

LOSS = $67.00

I would encourage anyone thinking of doing business with the UPS Store in Aberdeen, SD to reconsider and find a service provider that stands behind their service and strives to provide customer service.

Update! Aberdeen UPS Store is great! Jason's #1 goal in life flounders.

AUTHOR: Mark - (USA)

Addedthis rebuttle title to tantalize Jason into a response. If Jason wasn't joking,he has issues. Looks like his shame made him back off, or perhaps he spent his afternoon apologizing to thatUPS Store place. What's your guess?

Give this poor guy a break already!

AUTHOR: Kristin - (USA)

Does everybody have to pick on this guy? I bet his dad was an alcoholic and his mom slapped him once too often. That's why he calls others stupid and worthless, because he knows it's hurt him. His poor self esteem caused him to flounder in school and drop out early. He can't hold a decent job and now needs to sell junk in Ebay, like his dads old guitar that's been in the basement for years. He probably sold it for $75 in Ebay and forgot to state 'no international shipping'. Now he's taking a beating on the shipping costs. Plus after he sends it to Hong Kong, the recipient will reversethe Paypal fees and he won't be able to prove anything with the postal service. He needs the money to fix his '84 Chevy impala with 197K miles on it. His girlfriend dumped him for a better provider that was also much less verbally abusive to her. The only benefit for the lost Hong Kong sale is that he won't have enough money or any girlfreind to mooch off of to buy his beer. If people stop picking on him, perhaps he'll see the light, get his act together, and stop blaming others for his problems. You have to show some pity for people withsuch an inferiority complex. Remember, sticks and stones may break your bones but this complainer can't hurt you with his tears.

Jason, I suggest you learn the difference between UPS and USPS, problem solved

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

Why would you go to the UPS store, and then check prices on the USPS website.

UPS - These are the guys in the brown trucks with the brown uniforms.

USPS - This is the US MAIL.

Totally different services. Totally different organizations.

The UPS store will always ship via UPS unless you tell them otherwise.

The packaging was done to meet UPS shipping requirements, NOT USPS requirements, I'm sure.

You are an idiot.

This immature whiner needs an education.

AUTHOR: Clinton - (USA)

Asis possible with the caseofa previous response, Imanage a shipping facility similar to a UPS Store. That was a copout for this whiner to say it sounded like a UPS employee. My business ships via all carriers, and that "employee"accusation is just garbage. While blatantly using the UPS Store name, this irrational personis also cowardly hiding behind his/her computer withignorantand childish name calling.

This concept may be way above the whiner, but most readers will understand this detail: The company that packaged the item typically is also (or promotes themselves to be) the shipper of that package. That means that business must also pay for the shipment. Inflating the box sizeALSO increases the cost that business must pay to ship the item. This whiner has also spent so much time calling others "stupid" and "worthless", that he/she hasn't even given details of the shipment. Was it an electric guitar? If so, that packaging cost to China appears appropriate as compared to any other reputable packaging company. If it was an acoustic guitar, some packaging places will charge more. Acoustic guitars also need larger double-walled boxes because of their relative size, and the guitar cases often are not sturdy enough to prevent crushing while in transit.

This daft whiner is actually complimenting responses, whether they are shipper employees, business owners, or just competent individuals, by acknowledging apparent competence. Now, what have readers been thinking about the poster of this complaint? This whiner obviously had not beforehand, nor has to date, visited the UPS, FEDEX, USPS, etc, websites to learn about packaging requirements. As referred to by a previous response, if a business packages BELOW minimum guidelines and charges for that service, that business will be legally responsible for damage if not covered by the carrier due to that inferior packaging. All this lame name-caller can do is whine, "MAKE IT SMALLER MAKE IT SMALLER...DO IT FREE DO IT FREE...MAKE IT CHEAPER CHEAPER...YOU'REWORTHLESS YOU'RE STUPID..." He/she is doing this all while never bothering to refer to the easy to read packaging guidelines in ANY carrier website. GEE...wonder why that was never done...

And the last laugh. Is this whiner living in a dream world or what?! Whose responsibility does he think it is to get a zip code?? It's his shipment, but he can't get it? Some locations in China and Hong Kong DO in fact have postal type codes, but it's impossible for any shipping company, including the US post office, to know what specific code a person needs for his international shipment. There currently is no up to the second address validation software that matches addresses and zip codes to every name and city on the planet. At least this under educated whiner has a limited realization that there are more intelligent people capable of something more than he/she can ever understand. I can imagine hearing this whiner with his/her beligerant tantrum, "I AIN'T GOT A ZIP CODE...WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO KNOW IF THE ADDRESS I'M USING IS ACCURATE? YOU DO IT FOR ME...IF THERE IS OR ISN'T A ZIP CODEAND YOU USE IT OR NOT FOR THIS FUNNY LOOKING CHINY ADDRESS THEN THE BUSINESS WILL PAY ME IF IT'S LOST BECAUSE I AM NOT SURE OFMY OWNADDRESS I'M GIVING THEM SO I WILL MAKE SOMEONE ELSE PULL IT OUT OF THEIR STUPID WORTHLESS BUTT FOR ME BECAUSE EVEN MY BUTT IS NOT STUPID AND HAS VALUE..."

My guess is this whiner not only does not necessarily have a PHD in business, but also stuggled through junior high school. Unless of course heaced agraduatethesis in 'How To Name Call And Still Maintain Credibility'.

P.S. I hope this requested bold font will suit the complainer. As far as free advertizing for that center in Aberdeen, however, the business won't be affected by the limited viewing of this website (derogatoryinformation is oftenpositive exposure for a business), especially when they consider the irrational nature of the complainer. This site is used far more for entertainment than the 'Pay For An A' Better Business Bureau facade site.

UPS Store Aberdeen, SD - worthless

AUTHOR: Fr0gman - (U.S.A.)

They knew it was going to China from day one, but they could not find the post code for Hong Kong so they could not give me a price on the first day. *I* had to call UPS and find out that Hong Kong does not have a post code.

Not only are they too stupid to know what size boxes can be shipped via UPS but they are so stupid that they don't know how to use their own system to find international shipping info.

Do me a favor when you post your replies, can you please put The UPS Store - Aberdeen, SD in BOLD type so that I get the most SEO value from your replies? Every time you post something is feeds the Google spider but it really helps if you put the company name in bold.If not, thanks for the help.

- So you had them package it THEN ask how much it was to ship? If your intention was to ship it wouldn't that be the first question to ask?

As others have said you wanted them to package it. They did that so you owe them the money. It is not their problem if you decided to go with the USPS and need a smaller package.

Is Daniel an employee?

AUTHOR: Fr0gman - (U.S.A.)

You sure are singing the UPS is great song and you sure know a lot about shipping.

I explained to the idiots at the UPS store that the package was going to China and they chose to package it in a huge box... perhaps because they know that it costs a lot more the bigger the box???

The bottom line is that they charged an exorbitant amount for packaging in the first place. Then to refuse to provide any reasonable customer support was inexcusable.

Please reply to this rebuttal because each time you do it give activity to this complaint and pushes it higher on the search engines. My dream is to see this page actually above that of the UPS Store - Aberdeen, SD.

Unreasonable complaint.

AUTHOR: Daniel - (USA)

The UPS Store package the guitar to shipping guidelines. Demanding to alter that packaging to suit the complainers demands was ridiculous. It would seem apparent that this complainer would then hold that The UPS store liable fordamage to an insufficiently packed guitar, even though a different shipper was used! And this complainer even wanted it done for free!!

This complainer may already know that shipping items to countries such as China, Mexico, Nigeria, etc,is extremely risky. There is no trackingwhena shipment leaves the United States. ComparingUPS, or Fedex for that matter, tointernational postal service is ludicrous.

If the guitar had such a low value, why bother sending it to China? Was this perhaps a sale through Ebay? If so, this complainer is asking for his own problems and blaming others for them. If the guitar value was high, why would anyone ship itinternationally via the post office, especially to China?!

People like this complainer should just buy a box, shave it down to bare minimum, and find a horsebuggy to mail it. They can kid themselves that they're saving money, then blame others for the loss or damage to their ignorantly packaged things. These people are trying to be penny wise, dollar foolish, and just plain stupid.

Two services=Two service charges

AUTHOR: coast - (USA)

You paid the UPS Store to perform a service. They performed that service as requested. If you want a repack, then you should be expected to pay for that service as well.
