I took an item to be shipped to the UPS Store. The UPS Store packed the item. The item was damaged in transport to a value of about $500.00. Ups Guarentee states that if they pack it they will reimburse you for your loss entirely. Of the $489.44 in damages I got a check for $279.93. Now I have to cover the difference. The Packing number was   1ZV936F90314822457.

Did you even pay for the declared value?

AUTHOR: Seeworthy - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, August 20, 2013

Important details were not mentioned here. Perhaps that is directly related to the important information overlooked by the complainer. Consider the $279.33 refund, for instance. Shall we assume no declared value coverage was paid for? If that is the case, a maximum of $100 is the guarantee reimbursement for declared value. That leaves $179.33, which would seem to be the appropriate ballpark cost to pack and ship a small/medium gasoline-powered outboard motor.

Without that info, reader's will have to assume that this complainer is one of those people that doesn't want to pay for insurance, then demands potentially an infinite amount of money refunded upon a claim. For example, let's say a person ships a $25,000 ring. This person paid $5 to pack it plus $9 to ship, but chooses not to pay for the big insurance fee. If that package is lost, should that person be paid $25,014 for a shipment that they paid 14 bucks for - with NO insurance policy?! There are actually people like that. That Pack & Ship deal was reimbursed; the  entire shipping fee, declared value ($100 in this case), AND the packaging costs were entirely refunded. Next time, what ever shipping company you decide to use, pay the insurance fee. The odds are vastly in your favor. If you choose not to pay for extra coverage, you won't look too intelligent when whining about it later. Also keep that in mind with your home and auto insurance policies.

I would tend to think that this complainer believes that Obamacare is also free.  :-/

Value

The item was an outboard motor that was sold for $1650.00, that should clearly state it's value.

Where did you read that?

"Ups Guarentee states that if they pack it they will reimburse you for your loss entirely"

That's not what I read at the web site you provided. Their guarantee states:

About our Pack & Ship Guarantee*

If a participating location packs your item and ships it via UPS®and that item is damaged or lost in transit, you’ll be reimbursed:

The item's value (subject to the lesser of actual value, replacement or repair cost per the item's UPS Tariff/Terms and Conditions of Service

* Restrictions and limitations apply. Ask an associate for full details.

Did you ask an associate for full details? Please provide a link to where you read 'reimburse you for your loss entirely'.
