RE: US Data Corporation US Data Corporation "one of Americas leading providers of mailing lists, marketing data, sales leads and research data." What a well-designed scam...I applaud them for the level of detail they put into the scam. The tip-off was a deal that was too good to be true.

I needed to purchase a list for an email marketing campaign and I used an internet search to find potential vendors. I dismissed many of the companies because they did not seem legitimate. I was glad to find US Data Corporation as their rep was very helpful, their website was first class and every detail about the company seemed legitimate. My rep, Antoine Wald was awesome he provided me detail reports with exactly the information that I needed. He told me they have "75 full-time researchers that validate contacts thru a series of proven methods to ensure 95% accuracy" They have a link on the site for a A+ rating at the Better Busines Bureau even though they have 13 complaints.

Everything was consistent with other email contact providers until the deal kept getting better. We agreed on 123k emails for 3k and he said that would be the entire database for my target markets. My first real tipoff was the contract had 155k emails instead of 123k. How did they grow their database by 32K in 5 hours but I moved on figuring he had a filter on the first quote and I was super exited to get 32k more contacts.

Morally I was debating on whether I should tell him as he may have made a mistake and I did not want to get my very helpful sales rep in trouble. Just before I faxed over my bank information, I googled "US Data Corp" & "Fraud" and I found this site (Ripoff Report) as well as few others that reported them.

Antoine Wald was so convincing and I really wanted the benefits of a155K email blast for 3K. I convinced myself that these complaints must be disgruntled customers that had an axe to grind and they utilized the internet to air their grievance.

I contacted Antoine and I sent him the links to the report. He dismissed them as issues in the past that were fixed (although 3 listed on this site were within 2 months). I asked him for references. He provided me one of his best customers Erich Kaminsky from K2 Consulting. I left Erich a message at 310-927-1994 and he called me back within 30 minutes. Erich told me that his firm(K2 Consulting) is a marketing firm that uses US Data to secure lists for their customers marketing camaigns. I told him about the complaints and he told me that the majority of his customers have had great results with the lists he purchased from US Data, however customers that create poor marketing campaigns never take ownership for a poor plan and place blame on the quality of the list.

I assured my wife that everything would be fine and I am moving forward and ready to make the deal happen first thing in the morning. I was so excited about the email blast going out the next day that I could not sleep and I wanted to be prepared for the many orders plus I would get thousands email out-of-office notices from people away for spring break and I recruited a couple of college kids to help convert all the out-of-office contacts into a database for the second email wave for their return from spring break. I was pumped!!!

I went to Linkedin to invite Antoine Wald to my network and the red flags were flying He only had 15 contacts, no picture and a very basic site. People that viewed his site also viewed Erich Kaminsky Marketing Consultant 9 contacts, very basic site. It would be highly unlikely that people in these jobs would not have a ton of LI contacts. To my surprise Erich is on his viewed page. I did further Linkedin searches on Erich Kaminsky and I find another linkedin profile and he is currently the President of a company called US Data Corp for the past 8 years and prior to that he worked at K2 Consulting.

Antoine even provide me the names of Jeff Anderson or Ross Haley, my electronic campaign coordinators moving forward. BTW Ross is not in the company phone directory and Jeff's vm sounds a lot like an upbeat Erich Kaminsky and he no social presence.

Busted!!! Thank You Ripoff Report. Although I was not ripped off, I would be happy to provide evidence.

I too thought maybe US Data was for real.  So, like you I did some simple Googling and found Rip Off Reports and BBB complaints, over 30 in all. The BBB is easy to correct, the business owner just pays them to remove complaints, but the Rip Off Report is quite telling; you don't get over 10 complaints unless you are not returning customers money when the services weren't as advertised.

So, after reading your report and others, I sent "Marv" an email requesting 3 things: 1. Explain the Rip Off Report disputes 2. Provide me with the phone numbers of 3 of the marketing directors of the Fortune 1000 companies you told me use your email lists 3. Explain your Guarantee: "US Data Corporation 100% Guarantee. Our 100% guarantee means you'll never need to gamble on your marketing again! If our lists do not exceed industry standards for accuracy we will replace the defective data 100%."

His response:   "I can understand and appreciate your due diligence when choosing a list provider.  Rip Off Report proves absolutely nothing in relation to the lists we sell.  Anyone can go out and type a bad review on someone.  Competitors of ours can go out and fill out a fictitious complaint.  To think you run your business based on these websites doesnt necessarily say a whole lot about your marketing strategy.  We sell thousands of lists monthly and to have so few complaints should stand for something in your eyes.  We are very proud of our retention of clients, 65% of the orders we process monthly are re-orders by satisfied customers.  Also you want me to give you contact names of my clients in order for them to help me sell a list to you?  I would never bother my clients with these types of requests as I am sure they have better things to do with their time.  Oh and from my experience my customers do love to brag but to us as their list provider not to competitors and random people calling them. I know once you look past these odd requests you will be satisfied with our data but that is for you to decide. Good luck."

Its been my experience that when a salesman insults the customer, the sale is over.  ;-)

Thanks for posting this.  I did some research and asked US Data for 3 simple requests:  1. Explain Rip Off Report complaints, 2. Explain guarantee policy, 3. Let me talk to the marketing directors at the Fortune 1000 companies you claim use your email lists.  In conclusion: I (or anyone I know) would not do business with someone that responds to me like this.

Here is Marv's response below:
