It's a long read but beneficial if you're considering purchasing a vehicle from Value Cars Inc. I didn't want to do this but I'm tired of the runaround.

On May 14th of this year, I went to the 24th St. location and was immediately greeted by a salesman named Samuel Gamboa. I told him my price range and we immediately set out to find a vehicle for me. We stumbled upon a 2011 Mini Cooper S Clubman. Immediately I fell in love with it as the dark blue colour and dark red racing stripes on the hood caught my eye. So we went for a test drive. Samuel seemed to know a lot about the car and went over all the features. I knew this was the car I wanted after the test drive so off we went to do the paperwork. Once I agreed to the down payment and monthly payments, I met Marco the finance manager. Marco quickly explained all the paperwork and even before I had the chance to read it over, he was handing me another document to sign. I was told that the vehicle had a 30 day/1000 mile warranty but he failed to tell me (and here I also failed as I didn't completely read the warranty terms myself)  the warranty was 50/50. Meaning all engine and transmission repair expenses were split between myself and the dealership. Red flags started to raise as Marco was rushing through the paperwork and also attempted to show me a car fax on a Dodge Charger rather than the Mini Cooper. Probably a mistake but nonetheless a red flag. All in all I was happy when I left. I got the car I wanted, a warranty I thought I wanted and in less than 3 hours I was driving my car home.

Fast forward to May 27th. As I'm leaving work, I jump into my car and it backfires upon startup. The check engine light turns on, then off again. So, the next day I take it back to the 24th St. location and speak to another finance manager named Dave. I explain the vehicle problems and he tells me to take it to Alex at Value Auto Repair on 17th St. in National City. I get to the shop and Alex has gone home for the day so I leave it with the mechanic on duty. At this point I had no idea that I could have been loaned a car from the dealership so for two days I rented a car.

On May 31st, Alex calls and tells me my car is ready. I get to the shop and Alex tells me the spark plugs and ignition coils were bad. He tells me that he replaced the spark plugs and two out of four of the ignition coils and that I may have to purchase the other two ignition coils myself. I take the car home and it's still backfiring. I call Alex again who tells me to purchase the other two ignition coils and he will replace them the next day. He also tells me he'll go 50/50 with me on the coils but doesn't explain why. At this point I still don't know about the 50/50 warranty and supposedly neither does he (again this was also my fault). The next morning I went to O'Reilly Auto Parts and picked up the ignition coils. I go back to the shop, Alex puts them in, I drive away and now the car jerks back and forth upon acceleration. So back to the shop it goes and back to 24th St. I go. I talk to Marco again who then tells me he can loan me a vehicle after I ask him about reimbursement for the rental. He does not tell me whether or not I will be reimbursed but says we'll talk about it after I get my car back. At this point, I am happy to at least have a loaner.

June 11th, I am now frustrated and getting the runaround from Alex and Marco. I call Marco who, after a bad miscommunication and I very rudely shouted at him, tells me there is no time frame as Alex is trying to find the fuel pump and is having a hard time finding one. Back to waiting I go.

June 30th comes around and I still have no car. I go to the 18th St location and speak to Rene and Hilda who tell me they're trying to find a used external fuel pump from a junk yard as a brand new one costs around $1100. Rene tells me he and Hilda are handling my situation now. This is when I find out that the warranty is 50/50 as I'm told I'd have to pay for half of the fuel pump and labour which amounts to $3000 at this point. While I'm not happy about this, I agree as I just want my car back. Rene attempts to blame me for the fuel pump by saying my vehicle was close to empty when I brought it in. Hilda also tells me the long wait is due to ordering the wrong parts.

July 11th, Rene texts me and says my car is ready. I pick it up and test drive it that night as suggested by Rene. I drive it up the 5 and down the 805. Right before my exit, the check engine light turns on and the car is now running extremely rough. Back it goes next day.

Today is July 20th. I still do not have my car. I spoke to Renee today who was "surprised" that I still do not have my car. I tell Rene I want an "unwind", Rene tells me I have to speak to the owner, Paul who is gone for the day. He also tells me to call Alex. When I call, Alex tells me my car has been at Underground Autowerks and doesn't know the status of my car. I call Underground Autowerks and the receptionist tells me the "boss" went to get it today but she has no idea what's going on with it. And still I wait...
