When my lender decided to sell off my mortgage debt to another company, as they often do, I was unfortunate enough to have it transferred to Vanderbilt. When I ran into some serious health problems, was the victim of a domestic assault, and had very difficult family issues I reached out to them to see if there were any opportunities to modify my loan, or other programs to help me get back on my feet.It was Christmas time and I was struggling very hard.
First I was sent an application to fill out and submit along with my income information and they would see what I "qualified" for. After supplying them with all they had requested, including as essay about my personal life explaining why I was in need of assistance, I was told I didn't make enough money to keep my house, so they couldn't help me. Baffling since I qualified for the mortgage just a year and a half prior with the same income. As I scrambled to find anything else I could claim as income to help qualify for their options they keep saying are availible and to keep my two children and I in our home I realized I get mileage reimbursement pretty regularly for work-related travel. I submitted a form from my employer that outlined the average amounts I get for mileage- which was not much at all. I received a reply from Vanderbilt that said I showed far too much income to receive any assistance, modification, or extension of the life of the loan. While waiting on their determination I had not paid the monthly payment, it was then I began receiving calls daily and nightly, on my cell and at work.
I explained each time they called the situation and was told there was nothing they could do for me. I was offered instead to pay the payment i was behind now (waiting for their assistance determination) into THREE payments to be ADDED to my same monthly payment to get caught up... so a 33% increased payment amount over three months. I repeatedly asked what the options were that they kept mailing me letters about because I want to keep my home, never was I offered any options or even expalined what "options" existed.
Now I get 4-5 calls per day, sometimes more, usually very confrontational and condescending in nature. I have been asked if my car is paid to date and if so why is transportation "a bigger priority" than my mortgage? I've been told the reason they refused to explain any of their so calle doptions is because I havent paid my balance up to date completely. I was told I WAS NOT GOING TO GET ANY HELP UNTIL MY MORTGAGAE WAS CURRENT!!! If I could do that, why would I have reached out in the first place??? I was told I won't be assisted because I'm not making enough effort to get current.. There is zero customer service and zero respect from Vanderbilt Mortgage.
