Here's the story.... It all started when my husband went to look at a 2005 Honda Accord at Vandergriff Honda. Olabode Olakunle (aka Ola) is the salesman that dealt with my husband on this car. He "checked" our credit and said we were approved for the car, and that all we needed was $1000 for a down payment. My husband asked him if a trade in would suffice for the down payment, Ola agreed. When I came to look at the car, Ola seemed very rushed. He let me test drive the car, but when we got back to the dealership; I started looking at the car. I wanted to see EVERY thing on the car... He hurried and closed the trunk of the car and locked the doors and said "Lets go inside and talk about getting you in the car". He was in such a rush he locked my purse in the car! When we went inside to talk about the financing terms, we started to ask about the trade-in. All he wanted to give us was $1000 for the trade-in. That's real funny... that's all he needs for down payment, so thats all we get. I said No, I can sell the car for $2000. He said "I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU DO WITH THE CAR! GO SELL IT!!! ALL I WANT IS $1000!!". So, we got up and walked out... Ola came after us and then offered $1500 for trade-in. We said we're going to go look else where. This guy was EXTREMELY RUDE, I did not want to buy a car from him. No customer service whatsoever!

We did look else where. But, we ended up BACK at Vandergriff. I wish I didin't go back. Its been HELL ever since! Ola called for several days. We went over there on Saturday to buy the car. They said they would give us $1500 for trade-in. Ola still had our paper work from when we had came in on Tuesday. He went back and forth from the Finance desk... every 30 mins coming back. He didn't really say alot. Just finalizing the deal. We had already went over the Financing on Tuesday previously. So, then we are escorted to the financing managers office; Mr. Chris Snyder. Seemed like a real nice guy. We had told him we were only coming back because of the car, not because of OLA. We let him know how rude Ola was. So we signed all the paper work with Chris, INCLUDING a SALES CONTRACT. Chris shook our hands; Have a good day; enjoy your new car; adios!

And then...... the good part.
THREE WEEKS LATER....
Yesterday we got a phone call from Ola. He says that the financing fell through, and that we need to either give them $1000, or they're going to come get the car! WHAT??! We signed a SALES CONTRACT that says we are financed for this vehicle. So, we have been going back and forth for 2 days with Chris and Wylie. Basically, what they are telling us is that the finance company decided not to give us the loan... they are going through another finance company, and they require $1000 "cash" down. When we questioned Chris about the trade-in and why it didn't cover, he said "OH... WELL... we actually need $2500. Since you have the $1500 trade-in, now we need $1000". When I had asked Chris for the finance company's phone number and the name of a person I could speak with about the denial, He said "Well, They're not going to tell you anything". I said, "Let me call them and hear that from them!", he said "ok". Next thing you know Wylie picks up the phone YELLING, "YOU BETTER GIVE $1000 OR I COME GET THE CAR!, ITS NOT YOUR CAR, ITS MY CAR! I COME GET MY CAR!" (I left out the profanity). Well, when we spoke with Chris later we asked WHY did he not give us the information that we requested, and WHY did he put Wylie on the phone. He told us that Wylie is a REPRESENTATIVE of the finance company that denied us. WHAT?????? Wait.... So let me get this straight.... Wylie says to us, "It's not your car, It's MY car. I come get MY car".... and Wylie is a represetative of the finance company that denied us.....? AND its his car?? WHOA! It's all sounding really fishy to me.

#1 - Ola shouldn't be involved with ANY of the financing issues. HE'S A SALESMAN.
#2 - Wylie owns the car, AND IS THE FINANCE COMPANY? Hmmm...
#3 - $1000 CASH? Give me a break.
#4 - I have a piece of paper that says "SALES CONTRACT" that is signed by us and the Financing Manager. Its not their "PURCHASE AGREEMENT" with their stupid LINE 14 on the back thats says if financing isn't obtained they can void it and we owe them for everday and every mile that we've had the car. SO WHAT! Void the stinking Purchase Agreement!!! I have a Sales Contract!!!!!

BEWARE PEOPLE!!!!

Similiar Situation in Flagstaff

AUTHOR: Calamityjen - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, August 14, 2007

Sounds like this may be the latest car dealer scam going around. I had the same thing happen to me at Auto Outlet in Flagstaff,AZ. I went in and found a truck I loved. Gave them 3000 down on it, signed the papers for the high interest rate due to my being a disabled college student and having iffy credit. I took the truck home, put nice wheels and agressive tread tires, a tint job on the windows and custom graphics.

I loved the truck, it was perfect for what I needed and I drove it to work every day for a month, went in and made my payment and was happy, until one day I get a phone call from "Jesus" telling me that the loan had fallen through, and I needed to bring the truck back because I couldnt afford it, even though I was making the payments.

I drove it to the lot and they immediately started trying to push me into a cheaper, crapped out truck that needed a timing chain. I just asked for my 3k back, they side stepped that and then pushed a 95 ford on me, that was too small and had issues. I just wanted my money back, but it never happened. The stress was incredible on me as I watched them stripping my truck down, and then they tried to keep the 750 in tires!

I managed to get some of those funds applied to the new pos explorer, but when I read the note, they were still wanting me to pay 6995 for a 95 explorer that booked "generously" at 3495. After my husband decided to try and kill me and he got arrested, I decided I was just leaving town. I took the explorer back and I stupidly walked away from my 3k.

I do believe it is a new scam, so dont back down like I did, get a lawyer, sue them. Only thing I can do is warn those i know who are car shopping locally. I lost 3350 in cash, 750 on the tires due to they kept the ones on the explorer, 200 for a tint job, and 75 on the graphics. A very expensive lesson, I later ended up in a 99 durango I got in Texas at 6% interest and 250 a month on a 8k loan. No problems with the new company, guess they must be legitimate.
