Here is the reality working for/with Velocity Express as Independent contractor

1.       They tell you they will pay  you $110  a day regardless  you make delivery or not

2.       They mislead you  and promise to pay you 55% of the delivery fact .55 per mile

3.       They will tell you there is no deduction or tax deducted from your cheek fact $95.05 per week

4.       They will tell you that you have to buy commercial insurance- true  cost $130 per month

5.       They also subject you to drug test, that will deduct from your paycheck true

6.       Require you to get five uniform  and deduct from your pay check regardless true

They will tell you that you will work/ on call 12 hours a day 7 days a week so you would calculate how much you
would be making.  110X7= $770 and 770X4= $3080 a month should be the amount you would be making if they pay the promised $110 a day.   They also told me to pay me 55% on my delivery but that is not true.  In fact in
California the law requires employers to pay a minimum of .55 cent per mile but on the hiring process they will mislead you to get you in the door. On average you would be getting 5-7 dollar per delivery better than nothing.  But they would show you on paper and dont pay you.

In my calculation if you work for Velocity express the actual money you earn is $5 an hour and $60 dollar for 12 hours of work/ on call.  Hence the actual money you earn a month is $1810 (excluding state and federal tax at the
end of the year)

Here is how I get to this number:

You work 360 hours a month

Expenses

1.      
Car mileage (value depreciates)  $90, oil change $30, maintenance $40,  gas  $600  and commercial car insurance $130  when you add all up  $890 expenses a month

2.      
They told me no deduction tax or other ways but when I received my paycheck they deducted for the drug test they requested, they deducted for five Uniforms that I havent received and a permanent  weekly deduction that are not explained or communicated on the interview

$3080 the amount  I was promised  excluding  mileage pay -$1270   total expense and total deduction  = $1810 the amount I earn for working 360 hours a month

        
 You will work 360 hours a mouth and you make $1810. Your hourly pay is $5 without including you state, federal tax that you need to pay by the end of the year. When you deduct your state and federal tax you would be making somewhere around $4 an hour.

I respect any business that has the guts to start a business and make it happen. I have great respect and
admiration for those with passion and derive to make their business succeed and create job opportunity for many. It is honorable and must be supported.  What I dont respect is misleading, manipulating, and cheating to stay in business.  Why Velocity misleads people to a point where they have to keep their office door locked even in the normal business hours?  The management of velocity chose to focus cost cutting measures must be found in labor cost and various financial and legal skims rather than looking outward for better opportunity and expanding market share for example. Velocity is a dyeing company because of it.  This company is the worst company by all stretch of imagination. I will not advise any American to work for this company.
