I had 6 lines with Verizon Wireless. I called Verizon in Oct. 2013and asked them to cancel all 6 lines. I received the final bill and paid it off in Nov. 2013 including all the applicable penalties.

I ported 5 of the lines to another carrier and since my elderly father was too ill and no longer needed his cell phone, I abandoned that phone number. 

I did not hear back from Verizon until I received a call in Feb 2014 notifying me of having a delinquent bill on my father's account?

I was told that Verizon does not cancel the lines, instead they wait for another carrier to take over and since my father's old no. was not moved to another carrier they decided to start charging me without notifying me.

This information is not any where on the website and the representative does not tell you about it either. They admitted that Verizon needs to train their representatives to start conveying that information to the customers and their fault for not informing me.

I paid $30/month for my father's line so he can have it in case of emergency, and his average usage was less than 15minutes/month.

Since my father's line was not ported to another carrier, Verizon decided to activate the line, increase the rate to over $100/month and not even notify me until they contacted me in Oct. for delinquent bill!!!!!

I was told by the representative that even though I asked for all my lines to be cancelled, and technically it is their fault, I am still responsible for the payments because "I NEED TO MAKE SURE THEY HAVE TRULY DONE THEIR JOB!!!!!"

Of course my requests to talk to a supervisor did not get any where but they offered to reduce the bill by 20% to win me back as a customer!!! Finally I received another notification from Verizon on Feb. 6Th regarding cancelling my father's no. 

I also found out the only way to complain to Verizon is by writting a letter and physically mailing it. So, I still owe them the money and have to pay or my credit will be impacted!!!!
