I have been a customer of Florida Verizon Residential home phone services for 20 plus years. A few years ago, I was sent an offer for high speed DSL Internet with a guarantee of "lifetime" service which I accepted. The package included Yahoo Premium email service with "addressguard" meaning the possibility of creating separate email addresses for each contact. This is a desirable and secure system as if an email address is compromised, you only need change that one address. I had about 40 different sub email accounts with Yahoo.

Everything was going along fine for years until early this year Verizon sent a notice that they bought AOL and now users of Yahoo Mail were now being forced to change to AOL mail.

The FAQ's they sent said something like "your email addresses will still continue to be valid. But if you don't make the change, your email account will be closed."

Thus two weeks ago I made the change as required. Only to learn that in fact,

(1) No you cannot continue using your Yahoo email address(es). When you transfer to AOL Mail, only the email in your inbox and folders as of the day you switch are forwarded to AOL. Any further emails you recive at your Yahoo address(es) will stay on the Yahoo server instead of being forwarded to AOL Mail.

(2) As soon as you make the switch, you are UNABLE to access your Verizon-Yahoo Mail account any longer. You cannot get back into your account to setup forwarding of your Yahoo mails. Unless you change your email with all of your correspondents you will continue getting emails on the Yahoo server you are unable to access.

(3) Unlike with the Verizon-Yahoo Mail you contracted for, "for life," the AOL Mail they force on you has no "addressguard" feature. There is no possibility of creating the dozens of different email aliases (for security purposes) you could with the Yahoo Mail. So now for the same "guaranteed for life" price for the Verizon DSL service, you are forced to accept an email service that has been severely downgraded from what Yahoo offered to what AOL offers.

I believe all Verizon-Yahoo customers who were under these "lifetime contract" agreements should be eligible to file a class action lawsuit regarding Verizon's unilateral actions in this matter. I hope some attorney will notice this posting and investigate the viability of such a potential lawsuit.

Thank you.
