My experience is the same as the others and I am looking for an attorney to help me end this.

In October 2011 while my husband and I were vacationing in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico when we were told we could get a free excursion if we visited the Mayan Resorts. While there we were pressured into buying a timeshare for $7,000. We were wined and dined, pressured, told about all these benefits (none of which actually worked), and stupidly believed it all.

We tried to cancel, and were told we missed our time period to cancel - which they never told us about. Then told us in 3 years we can sell the timeshare and get our money back. Three years later, we are trying to sell this timeshare back and they are saying 1) we have to sell it on our and 2) pay them $5,000+ (10 times the mandatory maintenance fee) to allow us to sell the share. ARE YOU KIDDING ME. They say "it's in the contract!" Yea, but when we asked all about this, none of this was explained or told to us. In fact we were told the opposite.

All I want is to just end this relationship with this horrible company. I am looking for assistance, specifically an attorney since when we just spoke to Vida they were not willing to work with us and in fact, continued the lies - "your maintenance fee is waived you don't have to pay it if you don't use your timeshare," yet that's not listed anywhere on the bill and what happened to the three years worth of maintenance fees we paid but didn't use the time share because we couldn't.

Oh and they never did sell all those extra weeks the told us we would get and would pay our $7,000 back. All the companies Vida told us we have to pay and they sell our "weeks" - well we paid, but nothing was sold.

Someone please help me!

Mayan Palace Timeshare Scam

AUTHOR: DeborahM - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, June 18, 2014

I bought a Mayan Palace timeshare in my early 20s and it was one of the worst financial mistakes I ever made. I never intended to buy it, but I cannot suckered into going to a presentation to get free show tickets when I was in Puerto Vallarta. The high-pressure sales person convinced me to sign on the dotted line, and I ended up with a timeshare. It was one of the hardest things to get rid of, and I lost about $20,000 in the process. It was an expensive lesson learned.

Mayan Palace Timeshare Scam

AUTHOR: DeborahM - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, June 17, 2014

Unfortunately, Mayan Palace timeshare sales in Mexico are in its majority a huge scam. The OPC, the one on the street inviting you makes $250-$350 per couple...so be sure he tells you any lie there is. Timeshare sales people are rotating from place to place and mostly alcoholics that look for their 8% comission. We were surprised how they work, like sharks, and some are really good showing numbers, benefits, etc...If i did not know, i probably would have bought. Be careful and NEVER make a decision the same day!! They love this, just tell them that you need to think about and they will throw in all they have..that is the sign that someting is not quite right...

Similarly Duped, only at MUCH higher cost

AUTHOR: sickandtired - ()

POSTED: Monday, January 27, 2014

I am just sick to my stomach reading these comments and only wish I had searched this site last summer, before I got myself into this mess that, as a single mom and public school teacher with two kids in college, I cannot afford.

I, too, was pulled in with the lie that my Westin property couldn't command the trading power that their Mayan properties ostensibly could.  They conned me into trading one of my weeks with Westin AND signing a contract for $20K+ more.  They took $7,000+ on the spot.

I've already paid the $399 for the Golf membership that they assured me would get me $3800 a year for allowing them to use my weeks.

I've been dragging my feet about paying off the balance of my contract, as well as paying the $799 to transfer ownership of my Westin week to them, because I had a sick feeling from the day I signed the contract that these people were corrupt.  My God, what can I do to save myself from ruin?

If I just (and it sickens me to even consider this) abandon the contract, sacrificing the more than $8,000 I've already surrendered to them, will defaulting on their contract ruin my credit rating...  cause some sort of lien to my own personal property here in the States?  HELP!

Fellow victims:  What have YOU done?  I fear that going to an attorney will only cost me more?  Please share your good advice.

Mayan Palace Timeshare Scam

AUTHOR: VickyF - ()

POSTED: Monday, January 27, 2014

The sales tactics are the same for everyone at the Mayan Palace timeshare resorts. Hard sell, disrespectful when you say no, broken promises. DO NOT think for one moment that you have an upper hand...these are professional con artists highly trained to take your money. You have no chance of ever seeing your money again or receiving anything close to the value you were promised. Assume that everything posted by Grupo Mayan and its affiliates is a lie or a scam. Never do business with this company; never buy a mayan palace timeshare scam.

Mayan Palace Timeshare Scam

AUTHOR: VickyF - ()

POSTED: Thursday, January 23, 2014

The resort itself seems very nice, the sales pitch, however, is pure high-pressure sales. The sales people are snakes, their only motive is greed. They have no concern for what is ethical and will “brow beat” you to make their money. It was not worth the free breakfast and $50.00 dinner coupon. When I finally got up to walk away from the table, Luis got in my face and began to argue with me, telling me I couldn’t leave until he said the presentation was over.

I continued to walk away as I raised my voice at him. You would think that that would be the end of it, but they will continue to pass you to the next person for a “survey” which turns into another sales pitch…these people are shameless. If you agree to attend the 90 minute presentation you will regret it. Search online for Mayan Palace Timeshare Scams for other “horror stories”

Mayan Palace Timeshare Scam

AUTHOR: AmyWeb - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, January 21, 2014

We met with the Mayan Palace timeshare sales people during our trip in January 2013. We are already timeshare owners with another company and we were not terribly interested in taking on more debt for yet another timeshare. We expressed this feeling early on in the presentation.  Our existing timeshare with Shell Vacations Club is not paid off, so we still have the monthly loan payment and the maintenance fees we have to pay. We were told that their program would network us through a different "concierge" service that would pay the maintenance fees on our old timeshare, saving us that money, all while allowing us to use that timeshare the same as we always have.

Once I got the information in the mail about this service, I immediately called to confirm the information I was given and found out it was all false, and I am still on the hook for my maintenance fees plus loan payments on both timeshare packages. I made it very clear that I would not purchase the Mayan Palace package if this was the situation, and they blatantly lied to convince me to purchase.  I'm also learning that the rental income they promise is a big load of ***. These people told us everything we wanted to hear to get us to sign and take our money, but knew the whole time they were telling us complete lies! I've emailed someone asking to cancel the policy and get a refund, but I'm expecting to get some garbage about it not being possible
