I don't even know where to begin. It was our 2nd time at Cancun Mexico and we should have learned our lesson to not get sucked into those "body snatchers" at the airport where they promise you of discounts to tour tickets, and free lunch. We cave in and went to the supposedly 90 min presentation which took 4+ hours!!! After 4 hours of telling them "no thanks", we again caved in because of all the promises they told us about their company, how they're different from other time shares. The sales rep we dealt with was Virginia Garcia. We were told that this timeshare would only have to be paid when used. With much reservation, we agreed on 1 week plus 2 residence weeks and 2 extra weeks thrown in for free with the promise of no maintenance fees unless the weeks are used. There's a lot of promises about perks of the resort like discounts on golf park, travel benefits. But were not aware of yearly maintenance fees for 10 years. That was either not explained or intentionally left out. They kept telling us about the perks and usage fees only. We've also told them that we currently owned another time share so we weren't interested into getting another. So for us to agree, they said that they will give us discount on the total amount of the VIDA time share and that we would only have to pay if we use the property.

So, come this February, we got an email about some maintenance fee of $521 that's due by the 22nd of this month (Feb 2014). We were all shocked. We've been trying to contact someone from customer service and it took them almost 2 weeks to get back to us. We were contacted by 3 different representative telling us the same thing. That we signed two contacts, one explaining about the residence week and anothe about the registered week which took us by surprise as again, we were not expecting to be paying this yearly maintenance fee. We kept telling them that we don't want this yearly maintenance fees or to cancel the account all together and refund us the downpayment and some monthly payments (close to $3500). They finally responded when we told them that the credit card acct we registered to get the payments deducted was cancelled and that we will report them to the authority.

Now, they're saying that they can't remove the registered week but they can waive the first year maintenance fee. This is unacceptable. We're requesting our contract voided and all payments refunded.

Mayan Palace Timeshare Scam

AUTHOR: charlesb12 - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, March 26, 2014

I'm glad that your issue was resolved. Mine is now resolved too, but what a hassle it was to get a final solution. They completely lied in the presentation, then when we tried to cancel, they were uncooperative, unresponsive and downright rude. I finally had to hire representation to help me out of this nightmare. They were able to cancel my contract, and now I can enjoy vacations where and when I want. Mayan Palace timeshare needs to be stopped!

Mayan Palace Timeshare Scam

Do NOT do the Mayan Palace Timeshare presentation! We tried to say no until we were so tired of it we agreed to a 90 minute presentation for $100 USD per couple and 10% off of our charges for the week. The 90 minutes became 150 minutes. Each time they were ready to let us leave a different person prevented us from leaving. Very rude and dishonest. I had to express anger at the fifth person before they showed us the door. This left a sour taste in our mouths for the last few days.

After further discussion with customer service manager, they were able to work with what we wanted and what we signed up for initially. Basically, the issue is now settled. The manager (Eridany) has been very respectful and very helpful.
