The truth is we shouldn't have had to pay this since we told them that we were in the process of finding another place and that's the reason why we weren't renewing the lease. We couldn't just pick a place, pay for it, and move in it then and there. It doesn't work that way. There's application fees, background and credit checks, etc. Once again, it's a process that takes time. Considering how lightly my 9 year old son's situation (he was beat up on the tennis court by a teenager that didn't live in Village Green), they should have been more happy to help us out since they knew we weren't comfortable living there anymore. This is one of the main reasons we decided not to renew our lease, but here's a laundry list of reasons why Village Green is not the award-winning property management that they tout themselves to be:

- We had called several occasions regarding the dishwasher, but it was never truly fixed. It tried to catch on fire...twice. This should have been replaced eons ago, but Village Green is too cheap to replace their appliances and update the interior of their apartments. It's all about the rinky dink pool and the landscape with Village Green.
- A sign by our building indicates that security cameras are on the premises, but Brandy R told us that they're only by the pool. Basically, this sign is just a scare tactic. Truthfully, security cameras should be at the basketball and tennis court just as much as the pool. This goes to show how much Village Green truly scares about the safety of their tenants.
- It's obvious that Village Green doesn't do background checks. A former tenant (Michael M) that lived across from us, whom was nice, yet was still a convicted felon, nonetheless. We didn't know this until we were sifting through the pages of News 4 U and saw his mugshot for armed robbery. He continued living on the premises. There's this one lady that lives a few apartments down that is always drunk, sitting on her balcony, and yelling at any passerby. Then, we had the tenants above us, whom we contacted Brandy about twice + contacted the police 3x about - nothing fazed them at all, so they continue to party on with their erratic behavior (e.g. howling and maniacal laughter throughout the night), drinking, and drugs.
- When we first moved in, we called about possible mold on the caulking in the tub. Maintenance chalked it off as being something else. When there was water issues happening with a female tenant above us about a couple years ago, maintenance had to cut out the ceiling above our shower since it was causing the ceiling to pucker from the water leakage - I witnessed what looked like black mold on the wooden boards and even took pictures. I can honestly say my family's health hadn't been up to par since we moved here. We had been sick back to back with an array of maladies (e.g. lingering coughs that wouldn't go away). This has included dozens of doctor visits and a few ER visits. One included a tonsillectomy in March 2015 for me since the doctor noticed that one tonsil was significantly larger than other one. He thought it was possible cancer. It wasn't cancer, but studies have shown that black mold can cause sore throats, swollen tonsils, allergies, and chronic coughs. Coincidence?
- We've made a complaint about two stove burners not working, yet they were never fixed. I shall mentioned that the burners weren't sparkling clean when we first moved there, but they want to charge us $14 even though we cleaned at least every two months, and even before moving out.
- We called about two towel racks need to be fixed. The maintenance guy that drives the green truck, whom I suspect was half-drunk, did a half-done job (e.g. didn't sand down the spacking paste or repaint it for that matter). He said that he was going to come back the next day to finish, but he never did. We had no choice but to purchase two towel racks ourselves, because it was such an eyesore.
- One year the apartments offered a complimentary carpet cleaning, which was never done. We did rent a Rug Doctor before moving out, yet they want to charge us $280 for carpet replacement. The carpets in each apartment complex of Village Green have a 5-year replacement plan. We had been living there 3 1/2 years, so should haven't been charged that much to begin with, especially since we had already cleaned the carpets. Carpets are so passe anyways. That's why more and more modern homes and apartments are using hardwood floors.
- The cabinets have always looked old and rickety. All and all, the kitchen is simply outdated, yet somehow we're footing a $5 bill for the cabinets and $140 for the entire kitchen...for what, exactly? I've included pictures of the cabinets to get a gist of what I'm talking about.
Overall, I believe Village Green needs to shift their focus on the inside of their apartments instead of just the landscape. Plus, it doesn't help that the rent gets higher and higher each year. My husband first moved to Village Green in 2003, so this shouldn't have been the case at all with him being here this long. This is not the Hamptons, after all.
The identified teenage boy was never sent to a juvenile detention center, yet he was banned from the apartment premises. The two young boys as well as the mother was evicted within the next month because of it. When we questioned Brandy Rucker if this was caught on a security camera, she admitted that the security system was only at pool.
We found out that there were several teenagers that witnessed my son getting beat up, including a teenager that Brandy Rucker personally knew since she's friends with his parents. He was friends with the perpetrator, yet didn't do anything to stop a little boy from getting beat up. Maybe he was scared of his friend, but the right thing he could done was report it to the office (it's near the basketball court). All we got from Brandy was, "Teddy is such a good boy." "Teddy has been living in Village Green since he was a baby." Or "I've been knowing his parents for a long time." Terrible excuses. We all know that most teenagers act differently when they're hanging with their friends. Needless to say, her attitude toward us shifted since my son's situation was in the risk of putting a damper on friendship with the Duneghy's.
This all alone should had been the day we broke our lease, because there's nothing they could have done since it was lawsuit in the making. However, we hung in there. This is the thanks that we get.
