Craigslist Offers

AUTHOR: Michael - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, October 28, 2012

I had recently posted a hospital bed on Craigslist. Within a couple of hours I had received 2 offers to purchase with a request to remove my posting.

The 1st had the buyer telling me that the price of the item was satisfactory and please remove my ad. I was told that I would be receiving a certified check for the amount requested plus $40 for taking my ad down. Since he was travelling for church business I would not be able to meet him. He was having his assistant make all the arrangements of getting the certified funds to me and arrange for pick up by the delivery service used by the church. Three times in the message the church is mentioned. I believe that is designed to make you feel better in case you begin to question parts of the deal.

The 2nd offer came in shortly after the 1st. Again, I was asked to remove my ad as he wanted the item and the price was fair. Also I was told that due to a family emergency we would be unable to meet and that he would arrange for a delivery service that he has used many times in the past to pick-up. The major difference this time is the extra money. Of course I would be receiving certified funds but since his delivery service only takes cash he would be sending me an additional $100. That way when the delivery service arrived I could pay them for him. Usually he would have his wife pay them on delivery but with the family emergency no one would be available.

My solution to both was simple. I agreed to the deal but with 1 stipulation. The certified funds had to be drawn on a local bank and until I had cashed the "certified check" nothing would be released to the delivery company. When I had written them back with my condition I heard  nothing further.

I still have the hospital bed but that is better than being out $100 cash and the bed also being gone. My wife and I live in Louisville, KY so this is a national scam.
