On or around Dec. 19th My wife and I went into Viva Chevrolet in El Paso Tx. to purchase a Chevy Traverse. Our salesmen Bill found us a 2009 Traverse we all agreed on a price and about 7pm that night we were told we could keep the car for 24 hours while they got the paperwork ready for us to sign..

We took the Traverse to our mechanic the next morning but was told that they couldn't look at the car until the following day at 8am. We then went back to our salesmen and explained everything to him. He apparently had all of our paperwork ready to sign. My wife and I explained to him that since one of the warranties were to run out in 4,000 miles then we didn't feel comfortable signing for it until our mechanic says its a good and reliable vehicle.
'
He then went on to tell me to just sign the papers and if our mechanic said it was a good vehicle then we didn't have to come back in BUT if our mechanic says its not a good car then they will "rip" up our "signed" paperwork and we can return the car. I told him there's no way I'm gonna sign to buy a car until I have it looked at.

Bill then got very angry and stated that he was VERY offended and had never been so distrusted in his life. We tried explaining to him that we were NOT fixing to spend $21,000 on a car just because HE says its a good vehicle. He then sent us to Finance to sign for the Traverse anyways. while in finance we asked the finance man for a new salesmen.

Our new salesmen (Oscar) went on to explain to us that we were NOT allowed to take the car to our mechanic and there was no need to anyways because it was still under warranty for another 4,000 miles. We then told him that we were just gonna go get our car from home and bring there Traverse back. As we walked out the door 5 salesmen followed after us yelling, they started saying we weren't allowed to take there car off the lot and we tried to explain that we had only had the car for a 16 hours so the 24 hours wasn't up and we had only driven the Traverse to the lot and we needed to go get our other car from home.

The Manager Alex came out and as I was talking to my wife Alex started yelling and then said he was gonna have a salesmen take us home in another car because the traverse (that we were fixing to buy) had been sold. My wife asked him how he sold a car that we were in the process of buying and his response was that they are good like that. She explained to him that that was extremely  dirty to sale a vehicle while someone else has paper work drawn up on that same vehicle and he just shrugged his shoulder and threw the keys to one of the salesmen standing there and told him "go sale the car."

I was in my military uniform and being treated like a thief all because I wanted to have a car that I was fixing to spend $21,000 on looked over by someone I trust..

"Our new salesmen (Oscar) went on to explain to us that we were NOT allowed to take the car to our mechanic and there was no need to anyways because it was still under warranty for another 4,000 miles. "

Anytime a car dealer refuses to let you have a vehicle checked out by an independent mechanic, that tells you everything you need to know about the car.   "Still under warranty" means nothing if the car was abused or wrecked (which you would find out when you had it checked out).   The warranty would not necessarily be valid if the car had not been maintained according to specifications.

Basically, they saved you the money you would have spent on a mechanic to check out this vehicle.

Not singled out

This complaint is valid and I'm certain they treated you like crap.  The only problem I have with your report is your mentioning you are in the service.  Believe me, that has nothing to do with it.  Car dealers in general treat EVERYONE like crap, My Dad, my brother and I were all in the service and they treat us all this way.  They are not singling you out.

You did the right thing though, you didn't fall for their stupid game.  Good for you.

DAVID, SINCE CHEVY IS PART OF GENERAL MOTORS, AND GENERAL MOTORS IS PART OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE,........

according to information that's available on the web, it might be a good idea to send a copy of your Ripoff Report to Ben Bernanke so he can alert all of his bosses who ultimately control the Federal Reserve, wouldn't you agree?

Feel free to 'Google' this- WHO OWNS THE FED?, and go to the site with the five charts. General Motors is listed in 'Chart 3', correct?

It's always best to go right to the top and expose what happened, right? Since the Fed is ultimately in control of General Motors, it makes sense that they know how you were treated so they can take the appropriate action against the dealership.

Good luck to you.

You did good

They didn't sell the car while it was in your possession. That was a lie to make you think you missed out on a deal. You handled this correctly. The disrespect they showed you implies there is a problem with the car. If there isn't a problem with the car you still did the right thing because they are a-holes that don't deserve your money. Good luck with your car shopping.
