Went in Friday for an item I thought I could get at the Dollar Store, but they didn't have it, so I had to go to the damned ol' Wal-Mart. As usual, they had the item, but it was on the opposite side of the store from the duct tape I needed to go along with the cemetery saddles I was purchasing. Had to run to the other side. I was in a huge hurry and needed to get to the cemetery afterwards and appointments after that. Of course the Dollar Store downtown didn't have the saddles, so I had to waste time going to Wal-Mart.

I ran to hardware, and it begins at the paint desk. I caught a man there and asked where the duct tape was. He asked a female employee. She wanted to blow me off, saying, "that tape's over there in the other side of the store." I caught her with, "NO! Duct Tape!" She says, "oh, yeah, that's over through there," and she waves her arm. She was at the beginning of the department! It could've meant anywhere! I said, "Where is 'over through there?'" She said, "around that corner." I was fed up and took off wandering. I found it, finally. Keep in mind all I've ever heard is that the employee is TO TAKE THE CUSTOMER TO THE LOCATION OF THE REQUESTED ITEM. Not her.

They used to be pretty good about taking you to the item. Even when you told them you could find it, as long as they clarified the location, you didn't need them to go. But they would insist, saying it was their job, they would get in trouble if they didn't take you. But in the past couple of years, all of them are usually too busy to ever go with you. What are they worried about? It's not like they'll be working longer if they don't get their work done, we all know Wal-Mart won't allow them to get over forty hours. So, no matter what they spend their time doing, they will be out of there in less than forty hours.

After I got out of the store and was in the car, I called the store manager. He confirmed my belief that employees are to take the customer to the item, especially when asked twice about the location. He said he "would be having an immediate talk." But no matter his 'solution.' The trend is to get out of walking and helping as much as they can. If their damned associates don't like to walk a couple of aisles over, how do you think their customers feel about having to walk across the whole store to get one item? I can't even strategically park on one side or the other, as it seems I always have to trek across to get one item. I can't see how this place ever ran main street out of business, at least I would've felt justified getting back in the car to get varying items if they were in different stores.

I can see them putting the milk and eggs in the back to make you walk through everything to get to a staple. But putting all those clothes and crap in between groceries and hardware? Groceries and toys? It's not going to make me buy that crap. Their store needs to be more convenient to make us WANT to go there, not make us WANT to try the Dollar Store first.

People don't need to buy clothes at Wal-Mart every time they go, IF THEY EVEN BUY THEM THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE. But they usually always need the groceries, and a lot of times they need a hardware item.

Oh well, be warned employees, you don't take me to an item, I'm calling the manager and reporting you so you and him can have a chat.

Also, to the woman here in question: you had your name tag turned backwards so I couldn't name you. But I did describe you, and I don't imagine it's hard for a manager to know the name of the only employee working the hardware department at a given time, and he named you. I've seen you before. You've failed to help me before, but I wasn't in such a hurry , and wasn't so pissed. That time you also tried to tell me to go to the cleaning supplies when I DID FIND the item in hardware. Seems to be your thing, shirk the responsibility. I'm going to send my buddy in to ask for an item and watch from a few

This is the way I do my job

AUTHOR: Kolton - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, February 03, 2012

I work for wal-mart in the toy department. sometimes I'm too busy to take a customer to an item. Sometimes i have to give the customer a detailed description of where to go. I agree that we are supposed to take you to the item you are wanting but give us a break. If I took every customer to the items they were wanting my area would look like crap.

I do agree that this person should have taken you to the item because you asked twice. If anybody asks me twice for an item I take them to it or to somebody who can.

Once in a while they will ask me for something that I only know what department it is in and I am extremely busy. That is when point out what area it is in and where an associate will be to help them.

I always give 200 percent to customers who actually show kindness to us associates. if you ask nicely I'll be more than happy to help but to me you seemed to hate the whole walmart experience even before you got there.

Wrong again, Walter

AUTHOR: Chad - (USA)

POSTED: Monday, November 28, 2011

At the time #12 was posted, we DID NOT have the policy, at least not at my store. Every Walmart is different. However, over the summer we were told that IF THE CUSTOMER ASKS, WE ARE TO TAKE THEM TO THE ITEM. Also, the point of that post was to stand up to the OP because they were being a bully. Perhaps I could've worded my rebuttal in a better way. In any case Walter, I don't appreciate being called a liar.

Nice Double-Talk, Chad

AUTHOR: Walter - (USA)

POSTED: Monday, November 28, 2011

So in post #12, Chad states that Wal-Mart employees are not required to take a customer to the item. In post #14, Chad states that the customer is required to be escorted if the customer wants an escort. Doesn't sound like Chad really knows anything, just makes up whatever he thinks will sound good. What I do know is that it is clear the OP of this report wanted an escort, and didn't get one.

In addition

AUTHOR: Chad - (USA)

POSTED: Monday, November 28, 2011

I looked up the McDonald's post to see exactly what I said, and nowhere did I suggest that gays should be discriminated against or they weren't entitled to free water. All I said was that I normally don't support gays, but was doing so in this case because I felt the hispanic McDonald's employee might have been favoring his fellow mexicans. You have nerve saying I should be fired. If anybody should be fired, it should be the lazy Somalis who stand around talking instead of working.

Whoa there

AUTHOR: Chad - (USA)

POSTED: Sunday, November 27, 2011

Hang on a minute Walter. The policy is that IF the customer wishes, THEN we take them to the item. More often than not though, they prefer to find it themselves. As for discriminating, I don't do that at work because you're right, I'd get fired. When I go to work, I leave any prejudices I may or may not have at home. There have been numerous times where I've assisted someone who was obviously gay, even if it was unpleasant. I detest homosexuality and do prefer to stay as far away from gays as I possibly can, but when the situation demands it, I give them the same high level of service as I do any other customer.

You Know, Chad

AUTHOR: Walter - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, November 17, 2011

I don't see where you get off claiming that Wal-mart employees aren't babysitters, Chad. I know that Wal-Mart employees are supposed to take a customer to the item. I've worked there, and those were the orders. I've known others that work there, and those are their orders. I've asked employees where an item was located, after they tell me, I volunteer that I don't need them to take me to it. But some have told me that they must accompany me to the item to insure that I find it, because it is store policy.

And I can believe it when the OP says that the manager told her it was store policy for the employee to take the customer to the item.

So where do you get off claiming it isn't your job? But Chad, I did read another one of your rebuttals, about McDonalds. In it, you said that you didn't agree with homosexuals and that they should be discriminated against. You thought it was okay for McDonalds to give free water to some customers, but since the poster in that complaint was gay, they shouldn't receive free water. Is that how you decide which customers to help? You size them up, and if you think they're gay, you get away from them as quickly as possible without providing assistance? You should be fired for discrimination. You could wind up costing the store a lot of money in a lawsuit, and I hope management finds out about your practices and quickly fires you.

We're not babysitters

AUTHOR: Chad - (USA)

POSTED: Sunday, April 03, 2011

Bryce, I've been an associate for almost three years now, and you are exactly the type of person we DON'T want coming in to our store. We are very busy and don't have time to hold your hand and take you to an item. We are not required to do so. We will do our best to point you in the right direction. We are not babysitters!

POSTED: Tuesday, September 09, 2008

I think maybe some of the others were right in assuming u walked in peeved, however, as a Wal-Mart employee we are told by management to walk the customer to the item in question, never to point. I think the associate was rude to you and should have been reported because it is her job to be cordial (The customer's like God to our managers). Ironiacally, I only see customers on my way out the door in the morning as I am an overnighter. But even leaving I'm stopped and although told not to work off the clock I will stop and take a customer to the item, I'm just nicelike that. Oh, and sorry but I don't even wear my nametag at work. It gets twisted and worn easily with all the things you do in between helping customers so I can understand the badge being turned around. Next time maybe you could simply explain to the associate your issue, she could've been picking up on your I-had-a-bad-day vibes.

Shop somewhere else, but Wal-Mart has run everything out of town. Ruined a lot of people and a lot of birthrights for people whose families had to close down the store. Stridex, I've never blackmailed anyone. Who is Charles? Hope you're happy Lori, working for such measly wages, insurance, no hope for overtime and no appreciation. But stay at your job. Somebody's gotta work to pay for my welfare.

No, I don't think people with problems are funny. But I do find it hilarious that you are on so many posts as being ripped off and yet continually reveal that you are the one ripping the business off. Walmart asking for a discount on top of the discounted price, EBay trying to blackmail sellers into accepting your way of doing things, etc. One day you may wise up and realize that the vast majority of responders find your complaints completely ridiculous. The others are people like Charles and you using false names. Oh well, it goes back to the country saying.

Shop Somewhere Else

AUTHOR: Lori - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, August 07, 2008

I really don't think it would matter where you shop, Bryce, you are not going to be happy with any service you get.

Being a 17 year Wal-Mart associate myself, I'm sure I'd rather you DID go to the Dollar Store. And I am one of the associates that would make you at home in my store. I would get everything on your list if you asked me nicely and take it to your car. AND I'd be genuinly happy about it.

In the end here, it sounds like you went into Wal-Mart with a slight (sarcasm) chip on your shoulder.

You get what you give.

relax

AUTHOR: Cat - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, August 03, 2008

You need to start thinking of other people more. Many of us here have disabilities, yet we find ways to get around the store without making life miserable for everyone else around us. A nice attitude goes a very long way I might add. Some how it comes across like the world owes you something and I do not know if you mean to come across that way or not.

Shopping is difficult if you have a disablity, but I have learned getting in an employees face , all upset is not helpful and honestly only makes the situation worse. Having a nice attitude helps to find what you need, asking specific questions as to where exactly the item is and planning your day so that you are not running behind helps. Not everything you do will go as planned and you might encounter problems, but what person doesn't?

The majority of us do not run and file a "rip off" just because someone did not help us quick enough or fast enough. I have one arm that works, I have had 45 surgeries and I've had enough discrimination to last a life time. However, it has never occured to me that some one "owes" me anything in life and I try to treat people like I want people to treat me. I know people in sales have enough to deal with and so perhaps you might want to say "please and thank you" a bit more often. Believe me, it tends to get more help and who knows, you might just begin to feel a little more happy yourself along the way!

Striderq is a b****

AUTHOR: Bryce - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, August 03, 2008

He thinks its funny that people with problems get s*** on by stores and corporations. There's no one in this area that delivers anything except pizza, chinese and prescriptions. There are no services that I can use to get what I need. I try to use the drive-thru when I can, but they can't understand how to take an order and a lot of them make you pull away from the window and then bring your food out and run away as fast as they can before you can make sure it's right. Then I have to either wait through a drive-thru line again, or hobble inside to make it right. See my report on Dairy Queen to see the way I was treated at my last disappointing drive-thru experience.

the reason fo Bryce's attitude. Lots of people have medical conditions that cause pain. Most of them do not take it out on people who have nothing to do with the condition.

Since you complained about the items you wanted being on opposite sides of the store, then yes you did want them to be right next to each other to save you from walking. If this truly was a problem for you there are two easy solutions. #1 Use the scooter/wheelchair. Obviously you don't mind making a scene so the looks the employees give you shouldn't bother you. Hell, report the looks to the manager and see if that helps. #2 Use your internet to find stores in your area that will deliver. Gee, it might work for items like this and even for food (pizza, sandwiches, etc). But then I guess we'd have to read your complaints about delivery times and how the pepperoni wasn't evenly distributed.

This is management's fault

AUTHOR: Bryce - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, August 02, 2008

Management told me that it will get employees in trouble if I report that they fail to TAKE ME TO THE ITEM. I have known people that have worked there tell me that they hate the policy. I know it's not something management tells me to shut me up. I never asked for EVERYTHING that I want to be next to each other. Just to not be insulted by their blatant placement of crap right in my face that I have to walk through. It's hard to walk that far with gout, and I get dirty looks from the door greeters when I try to get either a scooter or wheelchair cart because I have no impairment that is easily observed visually. It's the same reason I have problems going into McDonald's and even more problems when I am asked to pull forward and then have a wrong order dumped in my lap. Yeah, I'm supposed to pull back around and wait in the drive-thru to have them fix it. It hurts to drive as it is, without spending extra hours in the car for no reason.
AND, Robert, I do not talk to the manager in person. I call the store, and he's never asked for my name. I doubt he could spot me. Again, I can't walk all over that store looking for someone that may not be there. And, I'll have you know this...I went through with my first set-up, and that employee took my friend to the item. No call necessary. I'm still waiting to find the original lazyass working, so I can try her out (but she's probably gone from there, being as unhelpful as she was).

You went about it the wrong way Bryce

AUTHOR: Cat - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, June 22, 2008

First off why did you even go there? easy answer. You knew they would have the items you wanted. Either you are too young or too old too remember the days , but we used to waste time and gas and drive all over town to different stores to find every item we needed! Now we do not have to do that! With gas at
$4.00 a gallon I drive to one placem yes Walmart.

Yes I do buy clothes and at my store it is in one place, the hardware section is one place and yes the other items are in one place. Get over it, the walking will do you some good!

Now second and most helpful answer you are asking the wrong question. The employees are taught to answer "over there". So I got wise and now I ask politely I might ask........yes don't we sometimes forget that a little bit of politeness can go along way? I ask, "Escuse me, but on what AISLE can I find...................?" I have always gotten a good response. Try it and you will be amazed just how much better answer you will get than Where can I find duct tape? It is the same idea behind asking our kids "Do you want to go to bed"? of course they don't , so a GOOD parent says to their small child "It is time to go to bed so help me pick up the toys." Same question, just in a much better way of asking!

Good Luck, it sure works great for me and stop sweating the samll stuff and believe me this is small stuff. Having a surgeon cut off the wrong arm is a rip off, this is just a little blip in a days work. Come on now, use your legs, get some exercise and ask for what you really need in a specific way!

Question for you...

AUTHOR: Striderq - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, June 22, 2008

Since you want the items you need to purchase to be right next to each other, do you want tis for every customer? Gee, what a concept, call Walmart and tell them I want this, that and the other thing and by the time I get to the store they would have rearranged evrything to have my items next to each other. And then they can rearrange fr the next customer coming in. Basically the set up for Walmart is the same from store to store. Since you been to one you should have a good idea as to where the item you want is located. Sounds like you want the employee to put you in a wheelchair and push you aroung the store to make your purchases. Why don't you use your internet and find a store that will deliver to you and then you won't waste time walking from one side of the store to the other?

She's "pissed off" and going to "set up" an employee because she needed someone to hold her hand to find duct tape.

"Oh well, be warned employees, you don't take me to an item, I'm calling the manager and reporting you so you and him can have a chat." I'm sure the employees are just quaking in their collective boots just waiting for you. I wouldn't doubt the manager rolls his eyes when he sees you coming.

If Wally world is so bad, WHY DO YOU SHOP THERE??

Oh, and btw.. if you don't want to buy cloths, don't. Just buy your staples and move along (but remember, no more than 20 items in the 20 or less register!)

Have a blessed day..
