On 12/01/2009, I put my van in the tire shop to check my brakes and rotate tires , since the shop did oil changes, I had that done also.  When the tech check air filter, he show it to me and I was floored.

Walmart Store # 0867, has serviced my van since 01/2007, and checking the air filter is 1 of the check pts.  I find out not so, they don't check vans because its hard to get to.

The air filter was so dirty, that after the tech finished servicing my van at the tire shop, I went to the Walmart Store and showed it to the cashier in auto department and that's when I found out the policy on NOT checking van air filters.

I ask for the manager and got the asst. manager, I showed him the filter and he ask me when was I there last, he check my service record at their store, apologized, then handed me a $50.00 gift card.  He ask if he could have the filter and I told him no, I wanted to show it to my husband.  By this time I was anger, because my van could have over heated or even caught fire from their negligence.

My van, has the auto tell when to change the oil, I know that changing air filters helps the gas mileage and keeps trash out of the breather, so this is why I'm reporting this and I hope it will help others when servicing their vehicles, no matter what they drive.

If I could go back and know what I know now about this Walmart store's auto department they would not have serviced my vehicle.

Service like this is one of the reason our vehicles have such high cost of maintenance on them when they do break down.

Law suits are filed every day because something goes wrong with a vehicle and someone gets hurt or even killed, has anyone ever ask if it was the servicing of that vehicle that cause the problem, ie loose bolt, stripped threads on oil filters connection, damaged brake pad when checked, when was the last time ABS light came, when you just had you breaks replaced or the oil leaked out after oil change, you get the idea.  There are even bigger problems with mechanics and techs that just don't do their job as they are suppose to.  I could go on, but I think everyone gets the point.

This is probably a problem that could have been avoided by reading the fine print.

However, you are better off going somewhere else.  A dealer is more expensive, but in my experience, they are the only ones so far that have really made the effort to do a change properly.

I worked at Walmart for 2 years back in the 90's.  In my time, my store had to replace 3 engines because of botched oil changes. (I didn't do it!)

Calm down

This happens all over the place not just there. It isn't like your van was going to blow up. Sometimes those filters can be a pain and get stuck, maybe yours did by chance. So who ever worked on your van just checked it off so he would not get any grief from his boss. This isn't a rip off report to me, it even sounds like maybe it was just an accident. Accidents do happen.

Overheat or catch fire?

I am not a mechanic but, I don't think so.  The worst that can happen is decreased gas mileage, bad performance and eventually the car not starting.
