Sunday 8/23 at 11am I paid $500 cash for a NetSpend Visa Debit card. Went to my car to register the card so I can pay a late bill. I chose this card because it said no credit check, no hidden fees, no surprises and it offered atm debit. When I called they wanted ALL my info including full social. I gave them all the info so I could pay the bill. The automated system transferred me to a rep where I was informed there would be a hold on my funds until I sent them an actual copy of my social card and my DL. Red flags went up. I went back to the walmart money center and was told by the very dismissive Brittani that they don't refund prepaid cards. I asked for a manager. I spoke to Greta who said that didn't seem right. She pulled Carlo over, the assistant manager. We both got on the phone with Netspend. He told them that was not a standard procedure and that they needed to release my funds. They refused to, they said all they would allow is an at register signature required purchase which completely defeated my use of the card. He told them over the phone they were a scam and he had employees immediately pull All netspend cards from the register and told them they would no longer sell them. He further advised me to call walmart corporate and file a police report. I called walmart corporate immediately. The rep said she would escalate it to a higher authority. Thursday the 27th rolled around and no response. I tried using the card at a walmart register with a signature. It was declined, tried calling netspend again and it said I never registered the card, even though I registered it 4 times the previous Sunday. I called walmart corporate back and filed another complaint, she called walmart directly to see why they wouldn't refund. She transferred me to a Ronnita and said she would handle my refund. Ronnita said she had my info and would call me back. I waited 5 hours and called corporate again. She said she would file a report and have it escalated. Walmart refuses to refund my money despite knowing it was a scam and Netspend refuses to release my funds. Robbed by walmart. The police said it's a civil matter and I would have to consult an attorney

Magically after this report was filed netspend agreed to give me a Cashback option that was never available before. AURELI at Walmart made things right. Netspend claimed I never registered my card. Walmart managers can verify I did multiple times.

The issue is that you did NOT do the setup correctly. As YOU stated, YOU went to the car to REGISTER THE CARD!!! Meaning that YOU paid money to a card that had yet to be activated. So you basically held yourself up by doing this. ALWAYS make sure the card is activated completly BEFORE you put ANY money on it.
