On June 4th, 2008 I brought a Compaq Presario Desktop computer for myself. I also bought the 2 year extended warranty that the cashier suggested. when I got the computer home the box looked like it ha already been opened and I thought I might have done that putting it in and out of the car. I set the computer up and all seemed well for the first few days, then it started not wanting to turn back on after shut down. If I unplugged it and plugged it back in it would come on. Then all of a sudden nothing come to find out the power supply is broken and the computer was a used computer Walmart just put back on the shelf after someone went into the computer and tried to fix it themselves.

This is not the first time I have bought somthing from Walmart that had been brought back and put back on the shelf. I can't get my money back or turn it in to HP because they will say I broke it. I paid $598.98 for the computer and $70.00 for the 2 year extended warranty plus tax that I will never get back because I know how that Walmart opporates and they just do not care.

Extended Warranty

AUTHOR: Jacob - (U.S.A.)

Yes. The warranty that walmart provides is just an extension. In fact- just go to any walmart, pick up a warranty info booklet, and it tells you how it works. Which is why you read before you buy.

Walmart returns

AUTHOR: Ladyloveseagles - (U.S.A.)

This is no surprise. I have seen a lot of merchandise that was returned and put back on the self. They do this all the time. I have seen times when a computer will come back and some of the associates will take it to the back and re set it back up and put it on the shelf.

My advice. when buying any kind of merchandise. Alway ask the associate to open the box so that you can see what is on the inside.

Another word of advice that the associates DON"T TELL YOU.
the extended warrenty? It is only good AFTER the manufactor warrenty.
Read it carefully you will be very surprised what they REALLY cover.

Return the Computer

AUTHOR: James - (U.S.A.)

It is the policy of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. to not sell used computers. The policy is that once a computer has been returned by a customer, that computer, if used, is to be taken to the back of the store into General Merchandise Claims and be handled as a return to the manufacturer. If this computer is used, as you claim, you should have returned it within the 15 day limit one can return a computer. If you waited longer than that to return the computer, that fault falls on the consumer because this policy is posted around the electronics department registers and on the receipt.

Call their corporate office.

AUTHOR: I Am The Law - (U.S.A.)

Call their corporate office. I'm not sure if it'll help. This is a lot of money that we're talking about here, so they may give you a hard time. What about the warranty? Why aren't you taking advantage of that?

It goes further than that from a legal standpoint.

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

As soon as an item is opened, plugged in, tested out, etc. It is no longer NEW.

Therefore, restocking it and selling it to another consumer as NEW is FRAUD.

File a written complaint with your state's consumer protection division of the AG's office, as well as with the FTC. This could also be an easy win in small claims court, and then they may have to pay your legal/court costs too!

Good luck!

WALMART CUSTOMER SERVICE EMPLOYEE'S DO NOT EVEN KNOW THERE OWN RETURN POLICY!!!

AUTHOR: Mrs. Taylor - (U.S.A.)

It's not Walmart that doesnt care rather the people they choose to hire. Look at walmart return policy, I can not recall the time limit for a computer (it varys between 15-60 days) but if you express your concern towards the STORE MANAGER or ANY person above customer service they will work with you if not call the customer service number on your cell at customer service by this time there should be a solution. If not just return the computer without a reciept get a gift card (that can be used at Sams Club and for gas) but you will lose your 70.00 dollars. ALWAYS remember the return policy is not set in stone!!!! They can and will change the policy, it just depends on the person!! Always if you have already tried to return the computer at a earlier date REMIND them that you already called and came (x) amount of times and you feel as though you are getting the run around.Be firm and know the return policy they will try to talk circles around you and if all else should fail ( I hope not) isnt that the reason you have a warranty for?!

PS tell them you called the warranty number/place and they said since your still within your time limit for a return the warranty doesnt kick in yet. Trust me they do not know no more then you and I. GOOD LUCK!

Don't Buy High End Items from WalMart

AUTHOR: Noir - (U.S.A.)

By admission of their own sales associates, WalMart does restock returned items. The same thing happened to our son when he bought a PS3 there, got home and found the unit scratched and marked up. We returned it within the hour and when they asked why, we told them it was a used unit sold as new. The customer service associate said that they do restock returned items because they can't return them to the manufacturer. That's their problem; not our's. We paid for a new unit and that's what we wanted. They agreed to exchange it.

An expensive lesson for you for sure, but if the previous owner voided the warranty, you are likely SOL.

Just don't buy electronics and other high end items from them. And ask to inspect any electronic out of the box before you take it out of the store....returns are often easy to spot, even if it is repackaged well.
