Wells Fargo Credit Card Dept. and the Wells Fargo Credit Defense has caused me nothing but a 2 and a half month long headache that doesn't look like it's going away anytime soon.

Here's a small bit of background info. I have had a credit card with Wells Fargo for about 7 years now and I have been enrolled in their Credit Defense program for about as long. Among those benefits, is a deferment on you credit card payments if you become temporarily unemployed. Well in October 2008 I filed a claim to use this benefit since I was unemployed. I missed my October 2008 payment and was told that the claim would be backdated to that date if approved. Well, I was approved and the claim was not backdated. This led to me being charged a huge amount of fees plus the October payment. This caused me to go over my credit limit and have a past due balance. First two dents in my credit score. Another thing that I was told was not to use the credit card at all or the deferment was immediately canceled. And along with that, I would not be charged the usual credit defense charge since I was in deferment due to unemployment. And I would have to submit a Continuing Benefit Request Form with documentation showing that I was still receiving unemployment benefits.

November 2008 comes around. The Credit Defense program had not informed the Credit Card Collections Dept. that I had been approved and that the account was frozen. I had to spend over 8 hours on the phone back and forth between both departments until the Collections Dept. finally gave me a direct fax number to fax the letter from the Credit Defense Dept. that I was approved and payments were deferred. I was then informed that I owed $277.00 in overdraft fees/past payments that would have to be paid. Well, I took care of the first $100.00 in middle November. I paid another $100.00 on December 4th and that would have left the extra $77.00 to be paid before January 1, 2009. This was the agreement made for payment of the $277.00. And when the Collections Dept. didn't receive the notification like they were suppose to from the Credit Defense Dept. my credit score got marked again for nonpayment and over the credit limit.

December 4, 2008-I faxed from a Wells Fargo branch the Continuing Benefit Request form with the required documentation from the Dept of Labor. Don't receive anything yet and when called the Credit Defense was told that it was being processed.

December 30, 2008- I get a phone call this morning telling me that I owe $413.00 in a current payment and pay dues/over the credit limit fees again! Needless to say I was shocked. I immediately get transferred to somebody in the Collections Dept. asking what the hell was this. I was informed that this was made up of a charge from the Credit Defense for the month of December that again pushed me past the credit limit plus the overdraft fees of over $150.00 dollars and the current bill due January 1, 2008. Mind you between December 4th and December 30th, I had not received any type of phone call telling me that I owed this much. And when I had checked with the Credit Defense Dept. my paperwork was being processed. I called the Credit Defense Dept today and told them that I had faxed the paperwork on December 4th and because of their delay my account was active again and that I had been charged for Credit Defense when I shouldn't have been which resulted in overdraft fees again and more marks on my credit score. I shudder to see what it looks like now. I get told by my account rep that I need to talk to the Collections Dept to get the charges from Credit Defense removed. Wrong!!!!! Wrong!!!! Wrong!!!! They lied. You have to go through the Billing arm of the Credit Defense Dept to get the charges removed. After being on the phone for over an hour, I finally get somebody in the Billing arm of the Credit Defense program only to be told that this would have to go to disputes and to find out that the Credit Defense program charged me for November 2008 as well when they shouldn't have done so. I had to argue with the rep from the Credit Defense Dept over those charges. The agreement states that there are to be no charges at all, not even from the Credit Defense Dept while you are under the deferment for unemployment. The rep told me I had to pay those even while under deferment. Last time I checked when anybody is in deferment for anything, you don't pay any payments. That's the point of the deferment. As for the disputes dept, we'll see. I was told to expect up to a week and that somebody would call me. I don't exactly expect anybody to call me because nobody can seem to do there job correctly or outright lie and do illegal things like break their own agreement. So I had to pay $200.00 today for the current payment even though I'm suppose to be in deferment because I just know that if I don't I will see late fees and over the limit fees again courtesy of the Wells Fargo Credit Defense not doing their job and not processing paperwork when they are suppose to and informing the Collections Dept. And I faxed the Continuing Benefit Request Form along with the required documentation and the original fax confirmation sheet from the same Wells Fargo branch with the instruction by the Credit Defense rep to call back in 24 hours to make sure they received it.

And this is not all that Wells Fargo has done. My sister and her husband were in Europe from November 26-December 7, 2008. They called and let the Wells Fargo Credit Card Dept know that they would be in Europe and would be using the card to make purchases while over then. Well, when my sister got back and was comparing charges, she noticed charges in excess for $100.00 that was put there by Wells Fargo Credit Card department for programs she did not enroll in. She supposedly was enrolled around the end of November while she was in Europe. She didn't authorize this enrollment and they claimed that the called her and received her permission. Well her phone was turned off while she was in Europe. So they fraudulently enrolled her in 2 programs without her permission and she had to spend over 6 hours fighting to get those charges removed.

So in result of this, I would recommend that everybody check their credit card statements who have Wells Fargo Credit Cards and watch for these fraudulent charges. And as soon as I get a job, my first priority will be to pay this credit card in full and close the account. Hopefully, though I will be able to get a loan through family and friends to be able to pay this credit card and close the account sooner. All those lying and unlawful workers in Wells Fargo Credit Card and Credit Defense Depts are just causing me to have huge fees and over the limits fees because of their mistakes, not mine, and making me pay for it.

After this experience and reading and hearing about other people's experiences, I will not bank with Wells Fargo again. And to top it all of, I got a call today from the Wells Fargo Credit Card Programs division offering me some sort of insurance when I'm on the do not call list and probably had a much dented credit score. They wanted to offer me more "beneficial programs" that result in charges to a credit card that has seen over the limit fees for the past two months courtesy of them. The supposed business sense behind me leaves me baffled.
