All banks tend to use the same math. They add deposits and withdraw deductions from the balance. When the deductions exceed the balance, the account is considered to be in overdraft mode. Banks usually charge a penalty for each overdraft transaction. To avoid the penalties you should consider maintaining a positive balance using the aid of a check register.
