West Coast Moving estimated that my move would cost approximately $1000. It ended up costing me over $3000.  I was very clear that I had the contents of a 3 bedroom house packed into a 2 bedroom townhouse and that my garage was stuffed to the gills also. The rental truck arrived late with the company name printed on paper and duct taped to the doors. The truck was clearly not big enough.

The driver spent the entire time complaining about how sick he felt, how much pain he was in and how hot he was. (Arizona in the summer, what did he expect?) He was not capable of finishing a sentence without using profanity. At midnight of day one I told the crew to go home, get some rest and come back early the next day while it was still cool.  They showed up at 10:00 a.m. When I asked them why they were so late, they said they had overslept.

I told the crew that everything in the house and garage was included in the move. They said they were almost done. I reminded them about several things in the garage including 3 bookshelves and one of them said to the other "She told me that stuff wasn't going."  They jammed the truck so full that they didn't have room for their own furniture blankets. They had to put my safe in the cab.

When my belongings were delivered, two movers unloaded the truck while the driver took a nap in the cab.  The 2 movers made a real effort to read off the inventory tag numbers from each item as they brought them past me so I could check them off the list.  I really appreciated the effort they made to help me with the numbers.  When the driver woke up he stopped them from reading the numbers out. He said they never do that, it takes too much time.

The driver gave me the"Household Goods Descriptive Inventory" to sign.  The form says "We have checked all of the items listed and numbered inclusive, and acknowledge that this is a true and complete list of the goods tendered and of the state of the goods received" 'Warning, before signing check shipment, count items and describe loss or damage in space on the right above" Not only had the driver refused to allow me to check the inventory numbers on each item, the crew had deliberately concealed some of the damage.   For instance they hid the center leg of a gate leg table that had broken off, in the middle of 4 stacks of boxes.

The driver reassembled my desk incorrectly.  He only used half the screws and put them in the wrong places so they stuck out from the front of the desk and drawers.

The number and value of the things missing seem closer to theft then loss.   A matched set of six foot tall oak cabinets. the fact that they are both missing seems strange. A 3 foot floor safe, really? A laptop, all of my horse back riding gear, an antique travel desk, a three foot tall box full of my crystal.

The damage done is unbelievable. I think that a lot of the damage was the result of over stuffing a truck that was too small.  I paid extra to have my flat screen TV and some artwork "crated." Apparently crating is two pieces of cardboard, a furniture blanket and tape. I bought a few crating kits from a storage company and packed some of my artwork personally.  The items I crated cost half as much and were 100% better protected. They also put moving tape directly on some of my items, ruining the finish, fabric or whatever it touched.

I called customer service, told her that I was missing quite a few things and that I had been given some items that clearly didn't belong to me. She said she would research and call me back. She still hasn't called back.
