You are confused about your vehicle loan

AUTHOR: FloridaNative - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, September 22, 2016

First, I don't work for this dealership nor any other dealership and I am not defending the lender either.

There is a difference between the company from which you purchase your vehicle and the funds you use to purchase it.

It is your responsibility as a consumer to have the vehicle checked out by an independent mechanic not affiliated with the dealership prior to you purchasing it. Do your research before you step into a dealership to purchase. Don't rely on any statements from the sales rep regarding the condition of the vehicle. The only person that can give you an accurate idea of the vehicle's condition is a trusted, experienced, professional mechanic that does NOT work at the dealership where you are purchasing the vehicle. Once you have a pre-purchase inspection done, then you can decide if the vehicle is worth purchasing.

As to the funds to purchase, you have many choices.

  1. Cash from your savings.
  2. If you don't have enough cash, then borrow the funds from a credit union or bank. This means you need to get a loan approval to purchase a vehicle before you start looking.
  3. Last resort is to use the financing at the dealership. In most cases, especially for used vehicles, the dealership financing is the most expensive type of financing you can get. You pay a higher interest rate and the terms are not nearly as desirable as they are with an independent lender.

I said you are confused because for some reason you think the vehicle loan payment should be reduced when you have vehicle repairs. One has nothing to do with the other. The vehicle repairs are on you and the loan payments remain the same until it is paid off. Take the time to learn about how all this works before you finance something.

The solution to your current problem is to take the vehicle to a different mechanic that can fix these ongoing mechanical issues so you don't have to continuously bring your car in every month. If you don't like your payments, refinance your vehicle with a better loan.  Of course, that will be difficult if you haven't made timely payments.

Wrong...

YOU purchased a 10 year old car(with probably around 100K miles) AS-IS without any sort of warranty(most likely) and FAILED to get it properly inspected by an independent mechanic beforehand.

The only thing this company did was provide you the funds to be able to purchase it on the promise you would pay them back a set amount at set times.  They are not a mechanic, they have no idea if the car is mechanically sound or not.  They are also under no obligation to "work with you".

Just be glad they are only calling you 5 times a week...many of these companies will call you 5 times an hour until you either answer or pay.

By the way a 10 year old car can not be a "lemon"....it is called a Used Car and there isn't a single "lemon law" that would apply to your situation in any state.  Some states have lemon laws for used cars, but not for one this old.
