Hidden Spy Pen Camera With Audio NEW 8GB 640x480 Resolution Real Time Date & Time Stamping!  The cam works, the time/date stamping not so much. I have owned the pen for exactly 23 days. Paint is chipping off pen. Looks pretty cheap now. So I email the business and type a professional looking email pointing out that the time date stamp is giving me fits and the paint is chipping. I didn't want to return it for a refund I just wanted a replacement. I get this email telling me I am 'computer Illiterate'. hmmm? I own a Mac, I own a PC. I build websites. Started learning on a Mac when I was 10 years old. Yep, I must be illiterate. This guy was the rudest person I have encountered in all my dealings on the internet and I buy a lot of things online. I don't know what got this guy so mad, but his product really did start chipping paint and the instructions for setting the date on this pen cam really didn't work. Even after getting the first email with his blustery attitude I composed myself and emailed again explaining that I wasn't just your regular punk looking for  a freebee. I am a businessman who was really trying to use the product. Well, then came the next response. He told me to return the product for a refund only! Not a new pen cam. I couldn't have a new camera? Nope! He explains that I need to read the details of how to return my camera. I click there and see that if ANY of the packaging is missing I wouldn't get a refund!!!!! So if I send this thing back and he decides to say that packaging is missing he keeps my 143 bucks and I'm out a pen cam. Bill Mullen needs to consider that each customer knows people and we talk to each other. His website touts how his products are very different than those similarly found on the internet. From the looks of things, they are still rather cheap. I want to state again that the camera does record video. That is not what I am having a problem with. All I needed was a replacement lower half where the paint is chipping and some guidance on the time/date function. I really wish Bill had been nicer, I would have liked to buy more products if this situation had been handled different.

I just wanted to add a comment giving my experience w/ Security Systems and Bill in particular.  I'd had the pen discussed for a little over a year and started having issues w/ it.  I didn't keep any of the contact information so I did a search for the company in order to get return information as I remembered it had a LIFETIME warrenty against defects/problems. While searching I ran across ripoff reports and the comments being made here. I got a little worried as I didn't have any of the packaging and someone had stated they weren't allowed to return.

I eventually found the contact information/phone number and gave them a call (w/o emailing first mind you). The call was answered by Bill himself. It's not often you can talk to the owner of a company regarding a customer service issue, but it opens up a window into the company itself and how they'll treat you. In my instance, unlike some of what's been reported here, the experience was A++++.  Bill was very professional and courteous. He listened to my issues and then simply stated that it would be replaced. He asked me to send an email so that he could issue me a RA# and provide return information/instructions.  I'll have to say that it was one of the easiest return/replacement process I've ever been through.

Given what I'd read here, I must admit that I was a bit uneasy about calling. It was all for not, as all went quite well. I received the new pen w/in a few days of sending back the old one.  I guess those that posted here and made comments based on other's comments rather than their own experience just wanted to see their name on the internet. 

Bill, thanks for your time and for having such great customer service. You have a customer for life.

Excellent Product and Service

I first started hunting for a car/dash camera about a year ago after another motorist who ran a red light almost hit me. I did the usual searches with google, amazon, and ebay. I found a camera on carcameradvr.com. . It was cheap, so I bought it. It didn't work at all, so I tried to return it. I got the return address to some place in China and sent it via USPS. Well, that was the end of that. No refund ever came my way---$65 down the drain.

 

After that, I decided to search some more but look for a US web site and spend a bit more money.

I came across securitysystems.com. I send an email asking about return policy, etc. I received a quick response. And after looking at some of the example videos, I was assured of the site and the product. I bought the camera.

 

It worked great. Then one day it stopped working. I sent an email to securitysystems.com and received a quick response. They urged me to try a new card, which I did, but the camera still didn't work. I was then instructed to return the camera and they would send me another. I did and they did. I received the new camera quickly. It works great. It is a wonderful camera.

 

My shopping experience with securitysystems.com was like dealing with my neighbor. Excellent in every way. Kudos to Janice and Bill.

Please excuse this lengthy as Rip off does not allow indentations or separate paragraphs.  My rebuttal is more to prospective customers than to you as I have no idea who you are.  YES we have a few complaints...6-7..... We have been selling our products on-line since 2004...   By all accounts we have shipped over 100,000 customers.  We are not Amazon or like other vendors that don't respond to inquires, don't answer their phones or worse have only some "telemarketer" with no knowledge of the products to take your order.  I and only two staff take literally hundreds of phone calls weekly.  Many of these end up being 10-15 minutes in length discussing every aspect of the prospects proposed project, the proper device and IF they are even capable, yes capable of understanding or using this device.  You will find we are the only company honest enough to tell a caller that we think they should not purchase one of our devices as they by their own admission have no experience with any aspects that will be associated with the device as it interfaces with their computer.  Rather than just say sure we'll take your order.... and take advantage of them.. just to ring the cash register we politely tell them they will probably be frustrated with the device.  If they can get some assistance we agree to sell them.  Otherwise we feel it is taking advantage of them.  There is no other vendor on-line in our business thoughtful enough to suggest to a customer that perhaps their intended purchase is not a good idea.   To directly address this posting from this individual that was influenced by the negative complaints...  It is human nature that negative comments about a company are very damaging..... I would however had preferred that this poster had instead gone to our website and read over 1,000 positive comments collected by an independent ranking company, "Shopper Approved".    It is very easy to get a negative comment but very difficult to get a buyer to take the time to leave a good review... the reason is they expect a product to be satisfactory and don't feel the need to report as such.  The fact we have over 1,000 positive comments is testimony that our customers wanted to take the time to relay their satisfaction.   There is no other vendor in our industry that has this many positive reviews.....Today buyers are very savvy and quick to complain....... how is it we have only 6 or so complaints out of 100,00 sales?   I would ask any reader of this to put this into perspective.  It is impossible not to have complaints when you are dealing with the consumer.  Any business person will tell you that 1-3% of your customers will be impossible to please.  It is just human nature..... There are folks that will complain about everything.... they had a bad experience at Sears... and therefore will post a bad review..... trying to convince others not to shop at Sears.... If the truth be told... I believe many negative posting for any company is motivated by revenge.  Sometimes a purchase just goes sour....it happens....   A thousand previous customers can be tickled silly but then the next customer had a bad experience.  Some people will leave constructive negative comments while others are written with the sole intention to inflict as much damage as they can.  These posters are not new to this.  At every juncture they relish in the chance to harm a company.  It is something in their personality.  These same people are angry when they have to wait in line at the super mkt or will tell everybody they know never to buy a car from a dealer because they had some factory defect.   Everyday is spent demanding to "speak to the manager" and when they are behind the wheel of their car... they blow the horn constantly....  There are people like this.. and they are part of the human dynamic.  Unfortunately some of them end up being customers and as is typical everything is always displeasing to them......     It is not to suggest that we are perfect... but we are also human and sometimes we error.......   We are the only company that fully describes our products... while other vendors post a picture and an "add to cart" button we have extensive information which includes a product tour video, pictures, a full description of the device and most importantly 30-40 sample videos that are voluntarily sent in by customers.  In these videos the customers tout their positive experience not only with the product but with our company in whole.   We are also the only company that offers a Life Time Warranty.  We also do not "hide" our return policy like so many other vendors...... you have to do a deep search to find it...... because they don't want you to read it.    The products we sell are not made in the U.S. and we make no claims that they are.  We import from China and Taiwan because there is NO U.S. company that makes these products... and that is a fact.  We do however deal with only one representative and one shop that guarantees to build to our specs and deliver us the best quality we can offer to our customers.  The spy pen we have although expensive compared to what we refer to as the "other junk" is the best spy pen made.  It also has a life time warranty  because it is a gadgetry electronic device; yes it can cease to operate some day.  Every week we replace 5-10 spy pens that were purchased from us over two years ago.  We honor our life time warranty. Our car camera is currently the best in the industry and over 2,000 truckers have purchased it from us.  You can watch over 40 of their sample videos they voluntarily sent in.   In closing I would ask any perspective customer to visit our site, read the positive comments from "Shopper Approved"  and watch and listen to the customer sample videos.  If you need a further comfort level to assure your purchase won't evolve into a negative posting please give us a call.

 Like other postings I am just now reading your comments. We ship approx 1,000 customers monthly and since you have not included your name I have no way of recalling or verifying your complaint.   My personal opinion is I don't agree with your assessment.  We have a LIFE time warranty and you could have sent back your purchase for a replacement.  You also could've called us on the phone to get a clarification on the return policy.  I must politely say you misinterpreted it.  The stipulation that a product be returned complete with the original box and packaging applies to those that simply want to return a product because they've changed thier mind.  Unfortunately "some" customers want to "use" a device to make their recording evidence and then return it.... thus using the purchase for free.  In your case since you claim it was defective you could have returned it for a full refund despite missing some packaging material..... A phone call would have cleared up your misinterpretation of the return policy.    I also know a  lot can be misinterpreted in e-mails.  Since 2004 we have shipped over 100,00 customers.  In researching Rip off Report I now find 6 more complaints..... Not being a math wiz I know that one complaint out of 1,000 customers represents 1/10th of 1%.... I'm not sure what 6 complaints out of over 100,000 customers extrapolates to....  Not trying to be flip but the point is we should not be judged by a scant scintilla of our sales. We have hundreds of voice testimonials on our website, countless sample videos sent in by happy customers who comment not only on the product but their satisfactory experience in dealing with SecuritySystems.com.  On the website is also a link to an independent ranking company, "Shopper Approved".  There are  over 1,000 positive comments.   Our customers purchase from us because of the voluminous information we provide for each product.  Most vendors have only a picture and an "add to cart button".  We know the consumer need a comfort level to purchase and we strive to help them reach this. We are also the only company in this industry offering a Life Time Warranty.   Again, I am sorry for your disappointing  experience get in touch with us and I will send you a new spy pen for free.

Was going to order

I order off the internet often 30+ purchases a year and I order ALL of Christmas online. I was going to order from SecuritySystems.com and as usual I ALWAYS check reviews first. and here I am..

1) They advertise the Vosonic v737w as the ONLY dash camera that has realtime play back. However, they advertise falsefully . Abee v31, DOD F880 LDH, and the Holux GVR-2100 all have realtime playback at an accident scene to show officers who is at fault.  

2) I read the graphic rebuttal from the owner and the "pen" email from wifey...shame shame...I would NEVER order from a business that has reviews of this content and context... My order would have been the $290 dash camera. 

I will take my business else where and I would like to Thank consumers for reporting on unprofessional businesses. Keep up the good work.

getting back with bill. i read that filthy rebuttal. i was thinking is that all you can come up with? i saw another rebuttal you wrote where you said to let your kid do it. insult after insult. i thought, ya know, buyers are not just customers; they're human beings and they don't deserve that. maybe you do that so you can keep the money; i don't know. you're a thief to keep that man's money. i did some research and i spent my 257 on a gopro. it does beautiful pictures and more flexibility. i'm quite excited and happy about my purchase. i cannot wait to get it. i am SO glad i didn't buy from bill. i thank everyone that posted their experiences with this company. i'm sorry that it happened to you. i've been ripped off before myself for a couple hundred. at that time there was no Internet. i know how it feels.

Bill, words are not enough to describe the disqust i have for you over the filthy trashy things you said to a customer  and then you ripped the man off for 143 over packaging.

you think it won't matter? people will still buy?

i was ready to buy, but then i thought i want to check you out first. your website says i have to send an email prior to calling. i thought that was suspicious. i don't know where you are. i am glad i did. i was looking at the dash cam and the keyfob, but forget it. the shipping fee for that itty bitty fob came to 14.95 and i thought that was high.

i cannot believe the foul things that came out of your mouth to that man. if that's what you think about people, then buying from you is promoting you and your business and i won't.

i feel sorry for you.

I was just about to order a surveillance pen from this company.  Boy am I glad I read the RIpoff Report first.  It came up #2 on a google search of "securitysystems.com"  After reading the owner comments, I'm definitely going to keep looking for a good quality video pen that doesn't blink, which is being sold by someone who doesn't sound quite so pathological.

Much thanks to the original poster (and Ripoff Report) It sounds like you've saved me a lot of grief if I ever had to try an redeem that "Lifetime Warranty"

I was interested in buying an item from this company, and tried doing some research. I found Ripoff Report.com and the comments about securitysystems.com here. I also found some dirt about ripoffreport.com and its founder.

I ended up on a page on securitysystems.com's site explaining how any bad comments on RoR and other places were just plain false. Bill Mullen's statements seemed convincing.

So, I had a question about one of their products, and sent them an email. Here is the exact text of my email:

"Hi,

I'm interested in your spy pen camera, but there was one thing not covered in the video or descriptions (at least not that I
saw). Can the ink cartridge be replaced with a high-quality gel cartridge or the like? I have a cheaper pen camera now, and writing with it is horrible, and I don't see a way to change it. So it makes actually using the pen cumbersome.

Thanks for your time, and I hope to be able to buy one of your pen cams soon."

And here is the exact reply from "Janice":

"Yes that is not covered in the video as it is really not important.  The pen writes but it is primarily used as a covert recording device.  if you have to take copious notes then use a standard pen.  If you are at a meeting and need to hold the pen and take some notes then you can do this but again if you're going to be doing a lot of writingsimply
use a regular pen..doesn't this make sense??This being stated I know of no replacement you can buy.  We have some. and get one customer a year that actually requests one. we have ONE right now..and I'll be glad to include it with your purchase.  With our next order we can request some replacements and after you've exhausted the
two cartridges "writing a manuscript" with your spy pen you can call us and we'll send you a couple more.Janice OSecuritySystems.com "

Clearly unprofessional and matches the style of the reply by "mrniceguy" here.

I replied a little miffed:

"Ok, I didn't expect to be berated for asking a simple and logical question. I think I'll pass on giving you any of my money. Sheesh."

"Janice" replied pretty quickly:

"I think you are over sensitive or have a problem interpreting things????   I actually read my response to you again.. and don't see how you feel the way you do.don't know what else to say.and there was no intention to "berate" yousuch a strong word  did I not write this:  we have ONE right now..and I'll be glad to include it with your purchase.       Sheesh."

To which I replied:

I think you read a lot more into my question than I actually wrote. Use of multiple ?? and many ...... is unprofessional. I asked a simple question. All you had to say was something like, "Unfortunately no, our pen doesn't accept standard replacement ink pen cartridges. We'd be happy to include an extra one with your order if you like." Instructing
me how to use a different pen in order to "write a manuscript" is just petty on your part, like you're speaking to a petulant child. Some of those review sites apparently have you pegged exactly."

Right. I'd steer very clear of these morons. I'm glad I didn't purchase anything from them.

I have read Bill's rebuttal about a man being a mommy's boy and a few other unprofessional words.
I was just about to buy the pen, but thought I would check out the company before I spent 149$.

Your rebuttal Bill was unprofessional and child like. Calling customers names. How does that resolve a customers issues. Yes there are some rude and difficult customers, but in business we are suppose to be professional and not stupor to such levels.

Some of your other rebuttals were very professional, so I'm thinking maybe you had a bad day. The cost though could be very damaging if future customers read a rebuttal from an owner of a company calling a customer names.

Hey LOSER.  In searching Google in my spare time for for my name... on page 18 ... yup page 18... I found you lame complaint..........I remember you because we have around .05% returns...........you're a mommy's boy.... who sits at home jerking off and when things don't go your way with one of the products you buy while you sit at your computer with your pants down to your ankles.... you post your little boy nonsense.  It was the only complaint concerning my company.... and it took me nearly 13 months to see it........NOBODY has read your cry baby bullshit...........what a little mommy's boy you are............ as far as your mommy's boy complaint about the paint chipping off............as of today we've shipped nearly 15,000  of this product and your comments are unique. You are also the only mommy's boy not able to set the date & time on the unit......despite how "computer literate" you claim to be.....  I want everybody's business but don't NEED business from a MOMMY's boy like you. I'm willing to bet you're at least 45, have never been laid and sleep in the same bedroom you did when you were five.  It's also stacked sky high with all sorts of items you purchase on the internet. You're pathetic.............  Go ahead and post another comment that will show up deep on page 18 of a search...........mommy's boy. Next time sign your name to your little cry baby nonsense...............
