Wyoming Technical Institute - Wyotech Lie Sacramento, California

My fiance recently started going to WyoTech in West Sacramento California. We thought it was an excellent idea at first because he likes the field of work WyoTech says they can train people in. Well, the sales reps. lied about several things I am not happy about that I will discuss in my review.

The first thing the WyoTech "admissions counsler" lied about is the career services and job placement assistance. I'd like to say I know that job placement is ultimatly up to the individual looking for a job. But job placement assistance is a tool used by WyoTech to make people feel secure about spending amazing amounts of money on their school. The school program he chose cost somewhere around 19,000 dollars. He got 5,000 dollars in fincancial aid which lowers the cost of the school to 15,000. So we took out some loans so he can attend. Well, with the intrest, after we are done paying off the loan we will have paid somewhere around 20,000 dollars. We were definitly afraid of this number, so we asked some questions from the admissons counsler and the career services person and they both agreed that "we added the electricians program because the electricians field is booming right now." So he decided to go ahead with the electricians field. His love is cars, but he want's to make sure he will be able to get a job. When we started realizing that most of what they said is a lie we decided to look online to see if there are any jobs available. We looked on Craigslist.com, yahoo hot jobs, and caljobs.ca.gov, we found no jobs. To make matters worse, their idea of having "connections to employers" is looking on simplyhired.com and giving the students names and addresses of potential employers. Most of which are 50-100 miles away from where we live. They also said they can "hook" people up with jobs while in school if it's necessay, like I said, the jobs their finding are 50-100 miles away. We also called the local union to see if they have any jobs available, they have not had any since 2008! I'm concerned about what may happen to us after he gets out of school, but I am still hoping for the best.

Secondly, he absolutly HATES bookwork, which is why he decided to opt out of going to the local community college with myself. We asked tons of questions about what kind of coursework will be involved, the admissions counsler informed us that the ratio of hands on training to book work is about 60:40. He is now in his second modual and has not done any hands on work. I go to a REAL accredited libearal arts college and he is doing more book work then I am. The placement test at WyoTech consists of basic arithmatic and grammer. Right now he is doing triganomatry. He has a quiz every day and a test every week and the instuctor teaches one topic after another and expects the students to catch on right away. My math professors know better then moving on right away. We will spend a few weeks on a chapter, and I know their time is valuable, but I think the students grades should be more important.

One thing that I noticed that I will also like to point out is the scantly clad dressed admissions reps. Now, there really isn't anything wrong with women dressing a little sexy, but I did notice it and I have been wondering if it's a coincidence or a stratigic marketing ploy. Most of the admissions reps that I saw were young, hot women with high heels, clevage and a ton of make up. It seems to be less then professional. Most of the people who attend WyoTech are young men since the programs they offer deal with cars, cars and electronics. So, if the first person they meet is a young, hot woman showing a little bit of cheast and extreamly flirty, wouldn't that possibley subconsiously make the student want to attend the school a little more? I made this observation when I was waiting for him to finish his placement test and it made me laugh a little. I may be thinking to much into it, but maybe somebody has had the same observations.

Before you go to this school do a lot of investigating. So far, all I have heard are lies. Don't belive anything the admissions counslers tell you. Instead, try asking the current students who are around. Although they may be punished if they tell you anything negative, I saw it first hand.
