-- First off, I am a soldier in the Army, and was stationed at Ft. Hood, in Killeen Texas.

-- I needed a place quickly, and found JWC Rental Management Co.

-- Picked out a place and did a walkthrough with one of their people who took pictures of everything I told him to.

-- Lived their for about 3 months and then got called to go to Iraq.

-- Mind you, The Orders that The Army gave me, lets me out of any binding contract... i.e. RENTAL AGREEMENT.

-- I gave proper 30 day notice and signed a couple of papers saying I was leaving.

-- I requested they do a final walkthrough before I left, but they never did.

-- After requesting a final bill for two months, I finally asked to just talk to the manager.

-- TOM the manager gets on the phone, completely rude right off the bat, telling me I never gave proper notice and that I was EVICTED from that place and I owe over $3,000 and asking why I hadn't called earlier.

-- So I got rude too, "So, send me the final bill already so I can see where you guys screwed up, and what I'm being charged for"

-- After getting the bill I called back and asked for Tom.

-- He again was rude and said I hadn't given proper notice of leaving.

-- They must ride off the hopes that people don't save their paperwork... BUT I DO... So I scanned and e-mailed him my copy of the notice. Signed and dated by both.

-- Wouldn't you know it, they found their copy the same day.

-- So after much arguing he tells me, "OK, I see that we made a mistake... We'll settle for $1,000 instead."

-- I said I disagreed with that amount and wanted to see an updated Itemized bill.

-- He said he couldn't send me an itemized bill for a "settlement."

-- I said his charges were ridiculous. And that I disagreed with charging me $1,000.

-- He said "You disagree with settling for $1,000. Fine we'll just put it back up to $3,000 then"

-- I said fuck you eat a dick go to hell, you can't do that, it's illegal.

-- He hung up on me.

-- I called back a bit later and spoke with one of the secretaries, explained my situation, and requested an updated itemized bill.

-- I soon get an itemized bill, and it was for the $3,000.

-- My husband brought the bill to the JAG office (which is like a free paralegal/lawyer service for soldiers on most bases)

-- The paralegal he spoke to said that the bill was completely confusing. And I must admit, neither my husband or I could understand what any of it meant. If there is a way to upload the bill on this site, I will, and you will see that it is really confusing.

-- The Paralegal basically said, "Anything past the date you moved out is void. All these other charges like $60 for the screen door being off the track you can dispute. As for your $400 deposit that they took, you should only give them $600 if they are settling for $1,000.

-- So I sent them a check for $600... But only because one of the charges was a $400 charge for a part of the carpet having a burn in it that my brother-in-law did and paid me for. And another $200 charge for having a pet... A tiny little ferret that was neutered, de-scented, vaccinated, caged, and litter trained.

I have yet to hear from them at this point and it has been almost two weeks since I sent the $600 as final payment and requested a receipt.
