my son rented a tv from arrons rent to own and the tv got stolen thanksgiving day and it was reported the house was broke into so there would be a police report we dont have renters insurance so it is our lost my son understands he owes this bill and has talked to several people at aarons about this yet they keep sending people out to bang on my door and more than once a day and this week monday feb 12th 2009 they sent someone out after dark i was home alone and was sleeping when i heard someone banging on my bedroom window . i got up and went to the front of the house and seen the arrons truck outside and knew it was them well i dont think tehy should be able to go around someones house in the dark and bang on windows . they have also been calling one of my sons referances mulitable times a day after being ask by her not to call her back . they have also informed us they add 10 dollars on my sons bill everytime they come to the house that is a bit much since they seem to be here about 30 bucks worth a day i have let them into my house to see the tv isnt here when they ask to look and well i guess it made me feel like they were calling me a liar . But my main concern is them knocking on peoples bedroom windows i know if i had , had a gun he maybe dead or wounded right now because who ever broke in my house came threw my bedroom window to get in the house and to be woke up with noise at my window wasnt a great feeling .

Interesting Concept

AUTHOR: Cory - San Antonio (U.S.A.)

They break into your house and steal the TV that your son "rented" from aarons so your son deceides that he doesn't have to pay for the TV that he rented even though he signed a contract to pay for the TV and aarons probably offered him some type of insurance on the TV to cover it, in case something happened to the TV, like someone breaking in and stealing the TV from a house that didn't have renter's insurance. Kind of like refusing to paying on a car because it was stolen and you only had liability insurance. Get your son to "man up" and pay for the TV. It is kind of ckickens**t for aarons to keep coming to the house and adding fees onto his bill. Why doesn't mommy just call aarons and settle up with them and then let your son pay you back?

So true

AUTHOR: Diogenes - Averill Park (U.S.A.)

He owes the money. He needs to pay it. And, could you please define the word "multible" for me ???? I can't seem to find it in any dictionary.

Well...

AUTHOR: Robert - Irvine (U.S.A.)

The only reason Aaron's would be coming out is if your Son was not making the payments on the TV. So if we can assume he was current before the TV was "stolen", and he knows he has to pay it. Then why does he not continue to make the payments? After all as long as Aaron's is getting their money they could care lesss if he actually still has the TV. But if I was a betting person, my guess is that either your Son was not current or he does not really believe he owes them and stopped paying the bill.

If they are coming to your house and banging on the windows why not call the police?

When you made out the police report was anything else stolen?

By the way on what Calendar is "monday feb 12th 2009"?

To Anonymous

AUTHOR: Jeremy - Hattiesburg (U.S.A.)

As a former employee, I know for a fact that visits to people's homes are made much later than 8:30 pm and a lot earlier than 8 am. As for your second question, asking why she didn't let them in, I say this: When you're being manipulated through fear, most people would rather not deal with the issue. After all, why let them in, again, when she knows they won't believe her? As for paying on the TV when it's not there, I can understand the frustrations of throwing money away on something you don't have.

Wolf in Sheep's clothing

AUTHOR: Rhett - San Francisco (U.S.A.)

A new bill in Congress will make car buyers criminals if they get behind in payments. The Consumer Rental Purchase Agreement Act lobbied by financial institutions wants to change loans and leases to Rent-to-Own contracts.

H.R. Bill 1744 introduced 3/26/2009 by Congressman William Lacy Clay (D-MO) claims the purpose is "to protect consumers against unfair rental-purchase practices". Clay also said in 2004 that there is "nothing wrong at Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac".

What it actually does is sweep aside consumer credit protection laws, allowing lenders to call loans and leases "rent-to-own". It also supersedes state rights to regulate finance lenders, requiring all states to comply with this new Federal law. All a lender needs to do is describe the loan as a rental-purchase agreement. No APR's required. No usury laws to abide by. No messy foreclosure or repossession laws to deal with. Just tell the buyer its $400 a month for this Buick, for only 120 months.

Dealer Services Corporation president, John Fuller, says his "Ren'T'Own" automobile financing “can separate a delinquent "renter" from his beloved car in a New York minute–no sticky consumer-protection laws to slow things down”.

Here's a suggestion....

AUTHOR: Leann - Springfield (U.S.A.)

I have a suggestion on how to avoid this situation in the future. Spend the extra couple of dollars a week and get the renter's insurance. While most people don't want to spend the extra money or believe that anything will happen to the merchandise, sometimes it does happen. Buy the insurance.

Funny

AUTHOR: Thinkinboutit - Cartersville (U.S.A.)

It is nice to see how people would agree that people should be allowed to enter homes without consent to regain material. The consumer should never allow this to happen even if force needs to be used and the police involved immediately. I was interested in possibly renting some furniture but this site has given me more to think about. When i was in this rental place they knew very little about the actual furniture and could not give rates of interest.
