There are a number of issues with this company. Most have to do with deceptive practices after our goods were loaded.

Main issues:

1) Actual Cost vs. Initial Estimate and Order for Service
- Company underestimated actual cubic feet. Estimated 1200 cu. ft and actual was around 2000.

2) Additional Charges
- Company put goods in storage and charged additional handling fee of $495 to get out of storage.
- Company tried to charge additional $200 when unloading goods after receiving certified check for balance. Had to call police to get them to unload.

3) Misleading information regarding pickup and dropoff.
- Company lied about delivery date to get payment. Then, told us it was a Jewish holiday and they actually worked that date.

4) Unprofessional conduct and customer service.
- Company dispatchers hung up, lied, were condescending to myself and my wife.

5) No Full Service
- Company was contracted for delivering full service and left goods and left down.

The mover apparently has poor bookkeeping, small staff, absentee ownership, etc. The company dispatchers, Joe and Sam, were total unpleasent and useless. The sales person, Estie, was pleasent, but didn't seem to care after she underestimated the deal.

We had to call the police to the get this company to unload the truck because they kept adding additional costs after the contract was signed and agreed. The company unloaded the truck after the officer ticketed the abandoned vehicle and ordered a tow.

Of course, the drivers were very upset and left most of the furniture in the garage and did not provide any unpacking or setup services. We had to pay another $300 to a local Charlotte company to unpack our goods. There is some damage which needs to be claimed so we aren't finished yet.

Monster Moving referred us this sham organization and didn't seem to have any real quality control. When speaking to the company, they said United was licensed and they didn't have any complaints. Seems like they didn't read this board or moving.com.

I will want $395 for the additional handling fee, $300 for the additional packing and $170 for the additional storage costs outside the agreed upon contract. The total is $865, but it seems that we got off lucky here.

I hope Rip Off can contact this company and get a feel that this company should be out of business.

Thank you,

David
Charlotte, North Carolina

Don't speak so soon.

AUTHOR: Candice - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, October 14, 2010

Don't speak so soon.  I am going through alot worse with United Van Lines.  And if you take a look at the consumer affairs report I am not the only one. ( http://consumeraffairs.com/movers/united.htm)  Not only have they taken money out of my account without my consent but I am still waiting on my things.  It has been over a month.  I have been treated rudely and that is if I was lucky enough to get called back.  Everything that is on the contract is a lie.  Well everything about them is a lie.

United Express, not United ..there will be more scam movers using names very similar to reputable movers' names.

AUTHOR: Sharon - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, October 30, 2004

Justin, the above complaints are for United Express Van Lines, not United Van Lines. U.E. is capitolizing on United's good name to scam customers.

United Express (actually licensed as Exceptional Van Lines) had its license revoked last summer, so this company is no longer an issue. But there will be more scam movers using names very similar to reputable movers' names.

U.E. does not follow the laws like the major van lines do. But until there are laws that can actually HELP the consumers (and the power to enforce them), this kind of scam will continue.

Things to watch for

AUTHOR: Justin - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, October 29, 2004

Well first off I would like to say, When moving with a company please ask for a binding estimate. Second United Van lines is a large corporation and they have several agents, So you honestly don't know who is coming or what company is actually going to move you. Just cause it says united does not mean its the same company that actually have you the estimate. For all you others that have been charged mishaps on the estimates.

IF your personally did not add anything else to the inventory and they took what was expected and the cubic feet or tonnage is off that's the agents problem. See years back they changed the 400 n tariff to help the consumer, I know its hard when someone is holding your furniture hostage but check into it cause by law they cannot change a price cause of their mistakes......... I'm affiliated with a national van line and well I am totally sick of people making my job harder cause of scam moving companies

Rebuttal

I was wrong with using United Van Lines in my title here. These rip off artist use similar names like United Express to make people think they are affiliated.

We should put together a class action suit here. I reported them to the Motor Carrier web site under the Dept of Transaction and also with the State of Florida.

Most of these scam companies based themselves in Florida where they don't get caught as easily.

Moving Company SCAM!!!!! - UNITED EXPRESS VAN LINES

AUTHOR: Vishal - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, December 17, 2002

United Express Van Lines do not conduct what I would consider "legal business."
I signed up with them from www.aaamove.com.

Issues:
1. I got a quote for $900 based on my volume of 300 cubic feet. The reason I was accurate about the volume was because my stuff existed in "Public Storage" containers - so I could not make a mistake about the space.

2. They landed up with a Ryder truck ( late). Then proceeded to wrap things up - even though they were wrapped.

3. Finally after loading the truck - they stated that my stuff occupied 475 cu. feet. Then they dropped the bombshell that I was going to be charged $7 per cubic feet up from the $3 per cubic feet that they had originally quoted.
I became mad at this for three reasons:
3.1. I knew my stuff was in 2 containers for 300 cu. feet. - how can the same stuff become 1.67 times - that is physically impossible.

3.2. They charged me for 5 large boxes ( charging an exorbitant price) when they had explictly mentioned that they would not charge me anything for 5 boxes.

3.3.I had given a call before the move and aksed the sales person Veronica about the fact that what would the price be if my stuff came out to occupy more space and she mentioned dont worrry about it and that they would adjust at the moving place NEVER once mentioning that it would be charged 2.5. times the price quoted.

Anyway they ended up quoting $2500 for my stuff.
Since I had to drive that day and I was too exhausted to argue - I gave them a cheque and stopped payment when I reached my new place. I will pay them their original quote - but $2500 was highway robbery.

Finally Joe the dispatcher called me when they found out that the payment was stopped. He asked me to pay up or that I would not see my stuff.
since then I have sent countless emails and complained to the better business bureau.
I have not seen or heard from them since they took my stuff even though I have called and emailed. Apparently my point of contact Veronica is on a permanent vacation. I know my emails were read because I get notification when I the emails are read.

I am contemplating going to the police and filing a complaint for theft of personal items.

So anyone reading this email - PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT USE UNITED EXPRESS VAN LINES - they are not businessmen !!!!!!!!!!!

Be Fair

AUTHOR: Joe - (Canada)

POSTED: Friday, December 06, 2002

This response is mostly aimed at the Diana lady from New York. I believe it would be fair to say that your comments could be a load of crap to right, after all that is what you are saying about the original report. I don't think it is fair to say ones story is false when we really have no way of proving yours.

United Express Van Lines is a Scam Company

AUTHOR: Kay - ()

POSTED: Sunday, November 24, 2002

Without a doubt United Express Van Lines is a scam company.

It is owned by Nir Cohen and now uses the name Exceptional Van Lines.

Exceptional indeed...the stories of other victims of this company are on other websites dealing exclusively with moving scams.

United Express Van Lines is a good company

AUTHOR: Diana - ()

POSTED: Saturday, November 23, 2002

I personally moved with United Express Van Lines approximately 1 month ago. Their was beyond what I expected. The employees of the company treated my goods as if they were there own. I was so pleased with the company and their professionalism. I would refer this company to friends and family with confidence in there professsional ways of working. I was slightly over my estimated price, but that was due to the use of packing materials that they used for my move. This I was well aware of before hand. The drivers never treated me with disrespect or anything to that degree as some of these false reports state. My sales representitive helped me through the whole moving process and helped me to set up my delivery date. Please post this against the absurd accusations that are posted here on the company.

NOT UNITED VAN LINES

AUTHOR: Mike - ()

POSTED: Monday, September 30, 2002

Just a note to all consumers, the headline for United Express Van Lines, states, another United Van Line ripoff. Keep in mind, United Express and United Van Lines are two different companies, and in no way related to one another. United Van Lines, is the largest mover in the United States in terms of Market Share, and a great reputation as a mover. Just to clarify.
