Following mu son's accident, the police had the car towed to ROAD ONE Towing/storage. My son went to the hospital to get checked-the police never asked him where he wanted the car towed to. My son did not know as a young teen that he could of had it towed home.

When my son went to ROAD ONE the next day to empty his car ROAD ONE had him sign some papers stating that the insurance co. had permission to look at he car. At that time or not at any time was he explained that there was a $68.oo towing fee or that he was being charged a $20/day storage fee. Thirteen days later we received a certified letter stating that the police had released the car and that he owed the $68 towing fee and that now there would be a $20/day storage fee.

We went to get the car the next day and was told that there was about a $350.oo storage bill. When I talked to ROAD ONE and asked why they never told us from day one that there was a per day storage fee the answer was it would 'cost them more money to send out notices right away than to wait 2 weeks.' When I asked them if they explained to my son (when he went the next day to empty his car out)that there was a storage fee they replied with 'he didn't ask.'

They claim it is not there responsibility to tell people the policies and procedures-we are supposed to be all mind readers. I am going today to pay the fees to get the car but I would like them to reimburse me when I find that they are in error. They should make people sign a paper explaining their policy of charging a per day fee storage.

When I talked to the police dept. and I said that this was a scam the officer said that 'you sre probably right.' This I can prove because my conversation was taped. I would like to know if there is a policy that they should be following to let people know of the charges before they decide to tell them after they racked up $400 of fees.
Thank you,
Kathy

Did you think it was free

My Husband owns two used tow trucks We got into the business 1 yr ago. Our insurance on these two used vehicles is 6,000.00 dollars a year. Plus there has been numerous times my husband has jumped on the back of his truck because of cars not slowing down and coming to close to him, he risk his life everytime he picks up an accident in heavy traffic. You should be thanking the guy who do you think keeps the roads clean of abandon cars and never is paid for picking it up or taking it to a junkyard to be crushed.

You got off very easy it would have cost you alot more than that. Oh and by the way if your son would have been killed there would have been no charge for towing storage or taking the car away to be crushed so you or your family wouldn't have to deal with it. That is why prices are so high and if you called for a regular tow if your car was damaged we would be responisble for the repairs and then our insurance would have doubled.

Thank god for tow trucks and driver is all I have to say! Did you or your son really think there was no charge for towing or storage give me a break How far back in the woods do you live?
