pass christian, mswhile trying to rent a car for a wekend trip to south carolina, from gulfport ms., i was ordering a car online for 21.95 a day with unlimited mileage. but when i went to pick up the car ,iwas told that i could only get 200 free miles and that i would have to pay .25 a mile for the next600 miles because the free mileage only applys to people from out of town and you must show a flight ticket to get the free mileage. that is with every auto rental agency in america, when you rent at the airport, which is the only place we can rent an auto here.

Rebuttal:
As a customer service representative for Hertz Car Rental, I can tell you that whomever gave you that information (that you have to have an airline ticket to get free mileage on an airport car rental), did not work for Hertz. I work at an airport location, and we give free mileage to customers all the time - without airline tickets.
I cannot speak for Budget, Avis, or Enterprise, but I can say for Hertz, that, if you made a reservation online, or on our 800 toll-free reservation line, you would have a reservation ID number, which would lock in and guarantee your specific rate. Sounds like someone was trying to scam you.
