there are untrustworthy employees everywhere but Hamptons try hard to have honest caring staff
Sorry for your loss, ..I am an employee of Hampton Inn in La. As a desk clerk I have had to deal with the same senario that you mention here. Please don't assume that we are lying just because we tell you the items weren't found. We have had women wrap their jewelry up in kleenex and accidently throw it away and BLAME us for it.
I know there are untrustworthy employees everywhere but Hamptons try hard to have honest caring staff, I know we do here.I also suggest if anyone has a situation where they think a hotel employee has stolen something of theirs they get them to submit to a lie detector test, we have had that asked of us also.
I am sorry you lost your jewelry but there are signs posted on the doors and in the room guide(which are mandatory for all the franchises)stating that we are not responsible for lost items and there is safe deposit boxes located at the front desk free of charge for your convience. Of course losing your precious items is horrible but don't blame us for your negligence.
The next time you stay at any hotel may I recommend that you take better precautions such as utilizing a deposit box or some other safety resource.

By most state laws a hotel is not responsible for valuables left in a guest room. If you left items in the room the loss is entirely your responsibility. You assume that an employee stole your ring; if indeed you did leave it int he room, it is more likely that it was caught up in the linen and ended up down the drain in the washing machines. In America people -- including hotel maids -- are innocent unless proven guilty.
And it never ceases to amaze me how a $40 ring that somebody left in their room turns into a $3000 family heirloom by the time they try to file a claim. This type of thing does happen unfortunately, and it is why issues such as this are automatically turned over to the hotel's insurance company for investigation and legal process. Once a guest infers that a felony has been committed, they must first file a police report; by due process it has to be proven that a felony has been committed. I can't imagine that any hotel would retain - or defend - an employee whom they truly thought had stolen a valuable from a guest room., 99% of the time in these situations the guest has lost or misplaced the item and wants to blame the hotel staff.
