Ripoff Report Verified Safe

I am a 20 year old single mother. My parents helped me get a 2001 chevrolet lumina so I would have a dependable car to go to and from school in and so my son would be safe.

This car is a joke. I have had nothing but problems with it. First it was an electrical problem, along with the battery and that was in the first 24 hours. Then I had to get my brakes replaced. My transmission has been in there 3 times because it jumps. and now my transmission finally broke. The torque converter.... all of it. My car has 42000 miles on it and it runs like a beater.

They tried to say that I abuse my car.... that I must race with it or something... give me a break... with my one year old son in the back seat.... YEAH RIGHT.

I contacted Chevrolet and they keep giving me the run a round....telling me that its not their responsibility. How can I come up with 1500 to get my car fixed.. ALL You single parents know how it is...

you are not alone against Iten

i am a former employee of this company and i can tell you that you are not alone against Iten chevrolet at all, the place is filled with cons and drunks, well at least it was back in the early 1990's.

Marty Iten is in the newspaper for racial slurs he made. this was over the hiring of black sales people in the used car department that he fired and its in the star and tribune paper from 3-21-1994 front page lower left corner and in the interview with the reporter he said that he didnt have to hire any 'niggers if he dont want to' yes marty is a racist. the Iten family has had termoil in it for years and more so ever since the father died and they let marty take over, one of the other sons was into small go cart style racing and he spent alot of money to make a decent racing team and they kicked him out of the family and off the property and took all his money, trucks and equipment and they also took his house from him that the company owned. this was the word thruout the dealership way back when and word travels fast in a dealership--right marty-haha.

Iten also sold a kid a car and after he found out he couldnt get insurance to pay for the car from anyone,he brought it back within the 3 day legal limit and turned it back in and told them what happened and they told him too bad, you bought it and signed the contract-i dont know about contracts in this situation but the law says you have 3 days to return the vehicle without any damages on it and maybe pay a few small fees, but they told him tough shit and so i dont know what happened, the last i heard the kid got an attorney to get it worked out-i dont know.

BUT ONE MORE THING--all the dealerships around town dont check cars out like they should, they might change oil, fix the lights, brakes or any engine lights that are on and thats about it, so be careful when you go looking for a car, take a technician with you. i wish i could give you this one guys name on here but because i found him thru a friend and this guy is so honest that he show you just what is wrong with your car and explain it to you. well good luck

there is no legal three day right to return a vehicle

Im afraid the second comment on your complaint is absolutely false and incorrect. Mr. Iten never made that racial comment.

Also, there is no legal three day right to return a vehicle. A three day right of recision is based solely on home solicitation. You went to the dealership to buy the car they didnt solicit you directly therefore the 3 day right of recision is not valid. Some dealerships offer a 3-5 or even 7 day EXCHANGE policy, meaning if you arent satisfied you can exchange your purchase for another vehicle. However, in no way will you get your money back. This policy is strictly voluntary for dealers.

Having insurance has nothing to do with buying a car. You as purchaser and driver of the vehicle have a legal obligation to insure the vehicle, but the dealer doesnt have an obligation to ensure it is affordable for you. The 'kid' you refer to had to have been at least 18 years old. Therefore an adult and responsible for his/her own decisions.

Lastly, Melissa, buying a used vehicle is a gamble. The dealer never knows exactly what it has, you never do. Only time tells. That is why you need to have a private mechanic always look atthe vehicle and you need to assess your budget constraints. You cant afford 1500.00 to fix the vehicle, maybe you should have thought about putting an extended service agreement on the vehicle. Monthly this would equate to approx. 20 to 30 dollars a month, much easier than 1500 in one shot.

I would suggest next time before you slam the dealeship that you went to you should do some soul searching. Im not defending their actions, but it does take two to tango and from my knowledge of 10 years in the auto industry both parties are at fault.

YOUR WRONG ABOUT THE NEWPAPER ADD

READ THE MINNEAPOLIS STAR AND TRIBUNE ISSUE DATED 3-21-1994 You will find it stated on the front page of the paper!! (i also have the copy) IT WAS TRUE, the case was settled out of court for an undisclosed amount. Besides if the newspaper would have made this story up, they would have had a lawsuit for defation against them. ALSO, the story has never been rescinded.
OH, AND YOU HAVE ONLY BEEN IN THE CAR BUSINESS FOR 10 YEARS, YOUR YOUNG YET-I BEEN IT IN FOR OVER 20 years AND I KNOW HOW THAT FACILITY WORKS.
GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!

Thank You
