Ripoff Report Verified Safe

First of i would like to say that i am the one that this happened to and this is a true account that will stun all who read this about dish network.

i have a dish 500 system in my home and it is used very little because of a busy schedule and a life style that is always on the go. My nightmare with dish started around the last of Dec and the first week of January. I noticed that there was 4-5 porn movies on my bill when i called dish they explained to me that because they were purchased with a remote control that i myself had bought the movies.. discusted and upset i ate that bill that cost a good deal.

Today (5/7/04) my elderly father called me over to the house because they noticed a charge on the menu screen when we looked there was over 150.00 worth of porn and movies wich made my stomach do flip-flops. So i proceeded to call dish to see if we could rectify this situation the woman i talked to blatently stated and i quote 'well maam you must of purchased these movies because they were purchased through your reciever and remote. I politely told her that i had proof and facts to back up that i did not purchase these movies and ask to speak to her supervisor. On the phone with her supervisor i explained the whole situation over again as things progressed into a heated debate he politely told me that my elderly parents were the ones that had bought the movies and they should be responsible for them.

This is were my father came into the whole thing. We really cant repeat what my father had to say but needless to say the end of the whole story is that dish network is making me foot the bill on the whole issue with the movies and porn. If anyone can give me any help on this situation it would be a great help. A fixed income is hard to balance especially when you have a big corporation like dish bullying people around.

I no that the corperate offices are no longer taking calls so that is no help. But if anyone needs to no. The fcc and consumer affairs are willing to help in this matter but only in handling the complaints and disputes.

pay per view movies or porn

you can go into the reciever and check to see if the movie were ordered. from what dish tells us the ppv (pay per view ) is stored onto the smart card. their is only two ways to order pay per view. either with a phone line hooked to the reciever . or by calling in the order and following the prompts on the phone. if you go into the on screen menu you can check to see if they were ordered. using the parental locks is always a good idea even if you dont decide to use ppv . butsome of the later recievers have a software problem. that even with the parental lockout engaged. you can still over ride the lock by going into themes. if going into themes then movies. if you highlight a ppv (which the porn channels are considered pay per view ) then push select. it is suppose to go to that channel thell youwhat it is then ask for the password when locked out. but what happens is that it goes to that ppv channel bypasses the password then orders the movie. this is the the software problem that some of the later recievers have.i first noticed this problem about 2 1/2 to 3 years ago. when a friend brought this to my attention. he had a 3900 reciever. i personally locked out his reciever from ordering ppv and did not give him the password. but when he went into themes and selected a ppv it ordered right then bypassing the password. he didnt think nothing of it because he thought it was a preview . until they showed up on his bill. so check to see if you ever had a phone line plugged into the reciever and check the menu for purchases. please use the parental locks.you can hide the ppv and adult channel from the guide and lock them out also.

Thank You
