Chgo, IllinoisIn the year (2002) a Chevrolet Malibu was purchased from City Chevrolet. With the purchase of the Chevrolet Malibu, I purchased the Smart Choice Extended Warranty.
Not until recently did I learn that City Chevrolet went out of business. I was going for all maintenance at City Chevrolet which was only a oil change until later. Anything that I got done to my car was not covered under the Smart Choice Warranty.
When I did have a problem that should have been covered under the Smart Choice Warranty, I found out through Rogers' Pontiac, who purchased City Chevrolet, but they did not honor the Smart Choice Warranty.
I had to pay over $1600.00 out of pocket. I still have to pay a car note through the Bank of which Smart Choice was paid up front. I need any help possible.
I wrote a letter to file a claim in Cayman Island. If there is anything possible that I can do, please let me know. I am hurting and paying for something for nothing. Please help!

Smart Choice
Sorry to say you will probably not see any refund money here are several ideas you may want to pursue.
1. Return to the selling dealership (your going to need a Attorney) ask for a copy of their buy/sell agreement to determine who accepted responsibility for prior service contracts. IF it is the former owner (if it's the new owner ask them to honor the valid claims) find out who accepts service go to small claims court.
2. I don't think it will apply in IL but check with the department of insurance inquire if smart choice qualifies for the state guarantee insurance fund.
3. Find out from the new owners if the smart choice service contract you purchased was involved in a reinsurance program with the previous owner if so they should have a reserve program set up to handle valid claims.
4. Cancel the policy with your lender.
Attorney needed
I received your response to Smart Choice Warranty. However, I am in need of an Attorney to accept this case. I did call an attorney in the phone book. He said to contact the Illinois Attorney General's Office. I did follow up with the Attorney General's Office. They did not think too much could be done unless there is a class action refund.
If you can tell me any information, I would greatly appreciate your assistance. Valerie.
