Ripoff Report Verified Safe

In the year 2002, my future husband and I went to the Zales Outlet in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. We were going to purchase a wedding band SET at the new outlet which just opened. My engagement ring is where the problem is. We did purchase the insurance to cover the ring because of the expense. We are at fault for not reading the claus or ask enough questions about the insurance. Anyhow, the ring has been more in the service department getting fixed than on my ring finger. The problem we kept having with the ring was the prongs and loose diamonds. So, we keep bringing it back to the store. Then the ring finally cracked at the bottom and had enough as we have.

The store agreed to exchange the ring for a new one, because of ALL the problems with it. I finally got a new ring the end of July of 2004. Well, to my dismay, last week I noticed that one of the diamonds were gone. The prong broke and the diamond was GONE! As you can imagine, I then had my husband go to the outlets and talk to a manager by the name Gerald. Gerald told my husband that the insurance didn't cover lost stones. let me ask you something..WHY WOULD THEY SELL A RING AND INSURANCE IF THE INSURANCE JUST COVERED THE RING AND NOT THE STONES??? I am totally buffled and so very upset. So, I called Gerald at the Zales on November 8th and he proceed to tell me that he spoke to his regional manager and that the best they can offer me was to fix the ring at cost. I know I should of read the claus of the insurance but I would appreciate any suggestions on how to move forward and get my ring fixed at their cost. They don't even sell the ring anymore at this location. Go Figure!

Wortless Insurance

Worked at Zales many years ago. The 'insurance' back then was appox. 3 times more than what a real insurance company would charge you and covered less. One year, Zales took in something like 32 million dollars and 'paid out' 5 million. Quite a good profit. Zales employees were expected to sale so much 'insurance' per so many sales. People, chech with your insurance company before you buy their insurance and COMPARE. It should be alot cheaper with better coverage. You do have to schedule the item. And no I don't work for an insurance company.

Don't settle, if you aren't happy

I just wanted to update my comments. I wasn't happy with the response I was given by the manager or regional manager at Zales, so I called the corporate office. They did an investigation of the situation and got back to me. On Monday December 6th, I received a call and was told to go to the Zales outlet and exhange my ring. Wow, to say the least I was surprised. To make a long story short, I picked out another ring and I am happy. The question is: Would I purchased something from this store again. The answer is NO! But, I am pleased that they admitted the defect in ring we had and replaced it. So, don't ever settle, persude the situation until you are completed happy with the outcome.
