alhambra, CaliforniaNetflix uses the free two weeks free trial offer to lure customers into their bait and switch scheme. When Netflix finds your a frequent renter, someone who rents more than 9 dvds a month, they'll flag you and put you on the very long waiting list to receive their movies. This a contradiction to their pricing plan which states unlimited rental of x number of movies and with an average turnaround of one day. This is all lies. Netflix will postpone of confirming receiving your returns and purposely delay your next delivery. The touted next day delivery will turn to three or sometimes four days. And when you complain, they don't respond. My advice: Don't even bother joining. And quit if you're a member. No one deserves to be jerked around by such an unethical company.

Netflix not a rip-off
Ok, I am a member of Netflix. My husband and I average 24 rentals a month and have had no difficulties. ( we are on the 8 at a time program ) Movies take 1-2 days to get to us and in return they receive the movies in 1-2 days. Even the trial period went smoothly. So, this does not happen to everyone.
NETFLIX IS GREAT!!!
We rent probably 24-32 DVDs per month and have never had a problem. I usually get my DVDs the day after the last rentals are received back and I have only had one that didn't make it to me, which Netflix promptly reshipped, no questions asked.
Sometimes certain DVDs may be in short supply and there may be a 'short wait' or 'long wait', but even with ones marked 'long wait', I get these quicker than expected.
Sorry your experience hasn't been as good, but I will stick with Netflix.
Netflix Not Ripoff
I have used them for quite some time. And in their early getting going phase what the ripoff says did sometimes happen.
But I believe when they got on their feet and hired enough people, this is no longer the case and I don't believe it was ever intentional.
Every company has growing pains and I believe this is what was experienced.
We have tried other Movie Mail Rentals and Netflix is definitely the Caddilac of them all.
AGREE: Netflix DVD RENTAL Is A RIPOFF!!!
After Many Attempts to get Some Satisfaction from the Customer Reps at Netflix.
I have come to the conclusion that these people really don't give a Dam.
If you get 18 DVD MOVIEs per MONTH or 10 DVD MOVIEs per MONTH!!
They are going to do it their way and Screw the Comsumer.
Every thing this victums has said is TRUE.
And I agree NETFLIX SUCKS.
That's why I have gone back to BLOCKBUSTER RENTALS over the INTERNET......
Thank YOU very Much.

Netflix has been becoming a Rip-off!
I have had this exact same problem. We have been loyal customers for about a year. Now, for the last month the average Transit time between movies for me is 6 DAYS!!!! Meaning, I send my movies back on a Thursday and do not get new ones until the following Wednesday. Everytime I try and speak with someone about this, the only response I get is their terms of service answer. I even responded back with 'your tos doesn't apply to my problem' and the girl who I was communicating with had the nerve to email back with a REWORDED T-O-S. I used to love Netflix, now I'm just ticked off. I am averaging 12 movies per month. When I first started, I was averaging 24+.
Blame the Postal Service
I myself have netflix and I usually get my dvds within 1-2 days, however there have been 2 times where it did take longer. I got one of my dvds about 14 days later and it looked like it had been run over by a truck or got jammed in a machine or something. Im sure Netflix is mailing them when they say they do, its not there fault that the post office cant keep track of mail all the time.
Netflix not so bad
I have been a customer for a long time... a few months ago I noticed my turn around time was getting longer... I contacted them and the turn around time got better.. we are on the 8 at a time and we pay $37.79 with tax... last month even with the holidays we had 21 movies come thru our house... thats $1.80 a movie... Good deal to me...
Netflix got too greedy
I was a Netflix user for several years - originally very pleased with their services. Then I stopped for approximately 6 months when my work schedule was so hectic I had no time to watch movies.
I rejoined after their infamous settlement (which I signed up for over a year ago and have heard nothing since!) aware that they had changed their TOS to address those people that watched DVDs too quickly by their standards.
I found that it took 4-5 days on average for the movies to be shipped if I watched one and returned it within 24 hours. But if I held onto a movie for several days, then the turn around was just 2 days. This was a definite pattern for at least 8 months.
I believe that the people who are happy with the service do well because they are on a higher dollar program - 8 rentals vs. 3, which translates into a larger monetary guarantee for Netflix per month. It is the users of the 'cheaper' $15.99 option that Netflix penalizes most.
Honestly, though, I switched to Blockbuster and they aren't much faster and they often ship the DVDs out of order (which is a hassle if you're trying to watch a series, for example). But they are more generous than Netflix and give coupons for in-store rentals as well as an option to take your finished online DVD to the store for a free rental also.
It's too bad Netflix got greedy. They had a great idea and I initially enjoyed supporting the 'little guy' over a big corporation. So it goes...
i agree
I had netflix and had their 9.95 plan one at a time and during the trial period the turnover was miraculous but....after a month or so it was taking 3 to 5 days to receive the next movie in que , Folks i understand that holidays where you live and availability all play a part in movies being received in a timely fashion but i receive my mail in the afternoon and watched them in the evening and because i work for a grocery store chain at 5 am in the morning would deposit my movie in an official mail box manned by the post office with a pick up time of 7am.
netflix's warehouse is in portland now south portland maine and is only 23 miles away very close to turnpike in saco maine and portland maine,oh by the way ,i made it a habit not to rent a new release to avoid having to wait for a movie too long. guess what i finally discontinued service with them. later because only option was xxxxxx, the whole point of movies sent to your door is so you dont have to go to their doors. hey guess what started my new membership and and movies were just rolling in now i am on my second month and guess what its been 2 weeks since i have seen a movie by netflix.
so folks this is how you play it . if you are on a cheap plan less than 3 dvds at a time ,when delivery slows to a snails pace cancel,oh and make sure you time it so you dont lose out on your membership monthly fee ,wait a month then start a new membership, that is the only way you will receive your movies in a reasonable timely fashion.
No problems whatsoever with Netflix
I have been a Netflix member in their very lowest level for about 2 years. I get just one (1) movie at a time. All of my movies take only 1 to 2 days to get to their place and 1 to 2 days to get the next one. I play a movie Saturday evening, mail it on Monday and ALWAYS have the next one in plenty of time to play the next Saturday. They are usually here by Friday, sometimes amazingly by thursday. I live in a small town in Michigan about 120 miles from their mailing address in Lansing.
I have no doubt something could happen now and then but so far I love it!!
No issues
I have never had an issue with Netflix, and I rent 14-17 movies per month. They have never delayed a single shipment.
Could be the fault is not NetFlix
Having worked for the United States Postal Service for 20 years, I think the consumer should be aware that these DVD's from and to Netflix are processed through automation. I have worked the 'torn and lost' section and many times these DVD's are caught in the machines. Depending on the processing plant, it sometimes takes 2 days to 2 weeks for all the torn items to be patched - and this is only if all parts have been collected. On a light day, I would have 5 to 10 Netflix DVD's to patch and get out. And, having been a customer of NetFlix for some time now, the turnaround time only starts once they have received your returns. Start your time from the date you see that they have received yourr back. And, if you don't see yours, it's quite possible, the DVDs are somewhere in the postal system.
