Working with Ben Doyle and Roy Snowden they convinced us that we needed to get in before the company franchised in order to save thousands of dollars. So my brother and I gave them $20,000 deposit and signed the contract for purchase. Ben Doyle told us things like: 'We dont need to addend the contract for every little thing' 'There is much weight and trust with a handshake' 'We are building a relationship based on trust!' 'There will be no problem getting your money back. Dont worry' 'There is no real risk to you', We Will partner with you and help you with anything'
Well for the past year and a half we tried to find a spot for the business. But the City ordinaces and zoning are difficult and we cannot find anything that will work and the city will allow to place such a building upon. We Called and were assured by Ben that we would get a refund. Nothing happened.
When we sent a letter of cancellation to Roy Snowden (Java Jo'z owner) he said 'verbal agreements were never a part of the contract and that I will not refund your deposit! but we will help sell your contract' Ya right on the help on selling the contract! We have tried to contact them numerous times and eventually tried to get this resolved with a laywer sending a letter. The reponse was the same 'we will not refund any money'.
So in effect, Emerald Coast/Java Jo'z business ethics and sales practices are ones that revolve around lies and deceit. There is nothing about non refundable deposits in the contact. And the tactic is basically 'Take us to Court' Which as we all know is expensive and would probably cost us $20,000 to do! And I am sure they know that and that's what they are counting on to keep our Money! I am not the only one with this exact story either.

Update to this story
Well as you can tell it's been several years. There's been a lot of internet attention brought upon Java Jo'z and Roy Snowden. Several stories like my are out there. I have received a letter with the intent to settle. I will be signing and returning it. I now hope that Java Jo'z lives up to their side of the bargain and makes good.
