Philadelphia, PennsylvaniaMy 1996 Honda was ready for inspection in April of 2005, and I knew it needed some repairs. I had to make a decision of whether to spend my savings on fixing my old car or using the money for a down payment on a new vehicle. I had about $2000 in the bank.
I saw Cherry Hill Triplex's advertisement on tv and decided that I would go and take a look. I had never owned a new car, so the thought was exciting.
I had no knowledge about the ins and outs of buying a new car. You can say I was completely ignorant. Plus, I trusted that such a huge business would never try to rip off their customers in the way that I ended up being ripped off. I also knew that my credit was only fair, so this made me vulnerable.I was the perfect victim for the crime that was brought upon me.
I was not even out of my car, when a salesperson presented himself to me in the parking lot. He was a very nice gentlemen. of course. We discussed the car that I was interested in (a Kia Sportage), and we took one for a test ride.
When the salesman gave me the payment rates, I told him that I could not afford $475.00 a month. I told him that I could go no higher than $250.00. He seemed amazed and went to talk to someone. This other salesman came over and made me feel foolish because I could not afford these payments. Finally, the second salesman asked me if I could go as high as $275.00. I told him that I could. He told salesman number one to show me a Kia Spectra.
After a test drive, I decided that i liked the car and could afford the $275.00 per month. I gave him a check for $2000.00, and he told me to go unload my old car because I could drive the new one home that evening. I was very excited. I told the salesman that I did not want to do the $8000 trade-in. I wanted to just get the amount the car was worth. He came back and told me that they'd give me $600.00 for the trade, and my payments would be around $275.00 a month. I figured ok.
The salesman told me to come back tomorrow to sign the papers.
I came back the following evening at 7:00 pm. I had someone waiting in my car, so I was hoping to be quick. Nick, the Finance Director took me to his office to sign the papers. At this point, I should have left, but I was a sucker because I liked the car.
First, my payments were $371.00 a month. I told Nick, a very arrogant man, that this was not the price that I was quoted. He informed me that since my credit rating was under 650, it was around 630, I had to pay higher interest. He was rushing me and throwing around numbers. Every time I questioned him, he had a confusing answer. He told me that I had to buy Gap Insurance for 600.00 and a Monumental Warranty for 1800.00 or else my loan would not go through. Stupidly, I signed everything. The loan was for 18300.00.
The car was worth 15,300, plus I revieved a 1750.00 rebate and gave a 2000.00 down payment.
A few days ago, I saw a tv advertisement for Cherry Hill Triplex stating that the 2005 Kia Spectra could be bought for 12,000.00 after rebate. I then went back and looked at my paperwork. I could not believe how I was ripped off.
I went in to talk to Tom, a Finance Manager. He played with his computer and calculator for an hour and told me that I needed to come back the next day to talk to Nick.
I went back the next day and told Nick that I think there was a mistake. He would not even listen to my reasons. He was rude and told me that he could not do anything and that I should get an attorney.
I tried to explain to him that I actually paid their dealership 2500.00 for my trade-in, since they deducted 8,000.00 from an inflated price. He then made up a new price that was added to the car for something called an addendum. After he became loud, I told him that I wanted an appointment with the owner. He rudely set me up an appointment with another manager.
I have an appointment next week.
I write this complaint to warn people to never buy a car from Cherry Hill Triplex. I can not fathom how such a huge corporation can keep getting away with robbing hard working people. I am a teacher , and I make very little money. I know that I was very naive, but someone needs to regulate this corrupt business.
STAY AWAY FROM CHERRY HILL TRIPLEX!!!!
