Mt. Ida College is only out for the benefit of their own wallets They don't care about the students once tuitions have been paid.

Lama, You are not alone. Mount Ida College seems to like ripping people off. I was a student there, also in the Mortuary Science Program, Upon completeing I was allowed to walk through graduation without recieving my degree as there was one course (Accounting) that I had trouble with and was told that I would recieve my degree upon successful completion of that course. I took a break from school as I was sort of buned out with working full time in the funeral field and going to school full time. When I returned to complete my final course I was told by Susan Holton, Dean of Admissions at that time, that the curriculum had changed and now I was required to take a total of 6 new courses in order to recieve my degree as well as tuition paid in full($10,000). I was also told that I would be put on 'academic probation' and forced to sign an academic probation contract in order to return to school. If I didn't sign the contract, I would not have been allowed to return.

When meeting with Jackie Taylor at this time, I was told by her that she wants to and will help me get through this and make sure that I get my degree as I was so close to having my degree. I took 5 of the courses in one semester I was also working 3rd shift full time, only sleeping in my own bed 2 nights a week as I went to school 5 days a week and worked 5 nights a week. Needless to say, it was very grueling and I made it through that first semester with the best grades I had ever recieved there with the exception of one class (Jackie Taylors class). Jackie knew what my work and school schedule was and had said in the past that she feels that students should not work and go to school at the same time. I was not raised in a wealthy family where I could affor to quit my job. How was I going to pay my bills? My report card was accompanied by a letter from Ms. Holton that pretty much said see ya later, thanks for playing.

My grade point average. was very good, but, it brought my cummulative average up to just below (by only two points) what was required by the contract that I was forced to sign. I ask, Why was I allowed to walk throough graduation and told that I only needed to repeat one course and then told when I returned that I was a horrible student and needed academic probation pus 5 additional classes? shouldn't I have been put on acadenic probation at least in my last semester before I was allowed to walk through my graduation? when I tried to appeal to the school regarding being dropped with yet again only ONE class to go! I was simply told, 'You signed the contract, it's your fault'. I tried contactin Jackie Taylor many times and she never once made any attempt to get in touch with me. Ms. Holten refused to return my calls andd when I wanted to schedule a meeting with the school, no one would get back to me. it was like they were saying 'SUCKER! we got your $10,000. Tough SH*T!'. It looks like they only care about making their money and not help the sudents better themselves and further their careers. I am now stuck with all this education and knowledge that I can't do anything with because they wouldn't let me finish my degree.
